    Sorry, 2Fas,

I don't know whether the diagnosis is correct. Heck, I don't even know what a 'dampener' is. Used inverters are not expensive.
It may help you to post in the general forum so that the wider PC readership sees your post.

Also sorry, 2Fas, "inverter disc" does not ring a bell...
Torque limiter clutch, which may act as a 'dampener' lies between the ICE and the transaxle itself, and need some hours labour to get to.

I remember listening to Rush Limbaugh and he told a story about how his car quit and the repair. He towed it to a garage to get it running. The tech said that the "disgronificator" sp? quit and needed a replacement. He said it cost him $500.00 He knew that he had been HAD!

I'm sure you know what a "disgronificator" is, sure you do!

It sits right next to the inverter disc dampening thingie!

they should have made you aware of this when motor was replaced could have saved you $$$ on labor.
The dealer I go to does "stuff" for free I had them do the fuel system flush and they changed the pvc valve no cost it was a long wait though.

Then I would encourage Toyota corporate to lean on the dealer who did a poor job. The dealer owes you a decent repair.

    Final question or concern.
if the input damper is bad or going bad would there at least be some kind of code given.
i read where it might be the axle that's going bad.
Don't want to give up yet however i don't have 2000 to go on a chase.
unfortunately paying the dealer diagnostic fee of 69.00 just to be told it could be but there not responsible if it isn't an then turn around to put another trans in i can't afford.
    thanks.

A competent mechanic would have checked the axle and known it that was the problem.

2fas, you can try get a sample of the transaxle oil and send it to test. Any play/wear in the bearings and otr the winding's insulation would show in the analysis. Not expensive at all.

If it's an axle problem any tire store should be able to put it in the air and check for backlash.

An axle replacement or two wouldn't be out of the ordinary at this number of miles.

You may want to buy yourself a bluetooth OBD2 scan tool no more than 30 dollars or even a scan guage II 126.00 on amazon that way you don't have to pay anymore diagnostic fees it will pay for it self

A scan tool won't help if the car's not throwing a code.

I don't like to tell people how to think, but mechanical advice can be wrong, or even deceptive. You don't have to be more qualified than a mechanic who tells you to spend a lot of money on a repair, to question it. It's too easy for them to recommend unnecessary repair to those who are very trusting of whatever a mechanic tells them. Of course there are many honest mechanics, but you can't always be sure who they are.

At any rate, it's never a good idea to accept only the opinion from someone who stands to benefit from the advice they are giving you. That's a conflict of interest at worst, and a lack of due-diligence at best.
