A 55in fits in the GenII hatchback flat. Not sure how that relates to a GenIII V with a 65in, but I would guess it might fit if sideways. Or just strap it to the roof! Or really, just not ruin your family holiday waiting outside of a big box store to buy a TV. Just buy it online. Samsung guarantees all their discounts online or in stores, same price everywhere. Every year I just order a new Samsung TV for something from Amazon. Free 2 day shipping no waiting in lines and it is the best TV made currently.

It used to be that these TVs had to transported not lying flat. Has that changed ?
I think you can pay for delivery; I certainly would.

The drop in prices in BIG screen TVs has been spectacular. I wish there was enough I wanted to watch to make it worthwhile to own a TV

Plasma TV's have 2 very thin and at 65in very large pieces of glass holding everything together. LCD's have 1 thicker piece of glass that the pixels are grown onto. Glass can easily crack under its own weight, so that's why everyone says transport them vertically just like the glass-window trucks. When you lay them horizontally, it takes very little movement to overstress the glass and crack/shatter it. Transporting it guarantees a bumpy ride and lots of movement, this means an easy way to crack the new toy in the box.

An LCD/LED screen should be fine. A plasma screen, should be taken care of properly. In either case, put lots of squishy stuff like blankets/foam underneath the box, then lay glass side down into its nest. That should be good for a little bit.

Putting a TV, even a plasma, on its face does not damage it. It just makes it more likely to be damaged by little things. And the larger the screen, the more you have to worry about it. But at 65in, I am guessing this is an LCD/LED type display so this isn't as big of an issue.

Not even close to fitting. We hauled a 46 inch Samsung LED home standing upright per the instructions on its box and it was crammed against the headliner. That experience was a factor in our decision to also buy a Sienna to haul the bigger stuff.

My 65" plasma is 38" high, which is a good fit for the back of the v (unboxed). As already mentioned, some careful packing is called for.

The Best Buy website warns that an LED or LCD TV - especially a large one - should not be transported laying flat.

Of course not. Toyota also says don't tow anything with the Prius. It's just lawyers being lawyers. BestBuy and other retailers don't want to take returns from people that break it in transit and then say it was broken in the box. For the average idiot, that guidance should be followed.

If you have a couple brain cells to rub together and know why they recommend you not to, then you can take steps to protect the TV during transit.

When I bought my 55'' LED I transported it flat in the back of my Prius.

BUT....I admit I got lucky. It is NOT the way you should do it.

I handled the box as gingerly as possible, and gambled that the packaging, Styrofoam, would save my butt....

    I won the gamble.

But if I was to purchase again, or even a larger screen? I don't think I would take the gamble. One vibration or crack away from a whole lot of trouble.

    So..my advice? Don't do what I did...even though I did what I did...and it worked.

Certainly too late to answer the OP but I manage to get a 60 inch plasma into my CMax Energi! So a 65 into a v should not be a problem. I found the actual box specs on the manufactures website so I knew it "should" fit but but it was close! LOL

It took it real easy driving home even going so far as to take a longer but smoother route and loading the box with the screen up. It survived. (y)

This was back in August one 75" and 2 65" tvs had to take headrests off and push driver seat all the way forward could fit 2 persons plus the tvs inside the boxes

I also purchased some speakers those did have to come out of their boxes in order to fit ;)

Lol I bought this exact 60" samsung plasma (badass tv btw) a couple days before black fri, luckily I borrowed my dad's highlander which fit it perfectly. Prius I'd have to say no go....

Am loving the plasma though. The picture is outstanding....

Yes, but will it work as a head unit Nav display?

I wish! Im thinking about doing a second display behind the drivers seat for some dual screen action.

you might have to take it out of the box to get it to fit.

also check out Kayak Car Top Carriers. don't see why you couldn't put it on the roof for short transport.
