Disabling TC on the Gen2 is "always" a hot topic on PC.....

With that being said, and now that I have 92,000 miles on my Gen2 I feel more than qualified enough in the subject, seeing that I have been disabling TC in the snow and ice occasionally, and have never ever had any trans problems (when I changed my trans fluid at 85k, it was very very clean still with little/no accumulation on the drain plug) to say that as long as you dont let the wheels spin at high speeds and then "catch" dry pavement when disabling the TC, you will likely be fine.

If you can find one single topic on Priuschat of somebody who has damaged their Prius by disabling the TC, I will never ever defend the method again. However, Im confident that such a topic does not exist :D Damage may occur just like it can in any other transmission to any other vehicle.

i suppose most folks do tend to drive carefully with these cars, so I guess it would be nice to turn the tc off. I've really never had any difficulty in the snow though. but it sure is irritating on dry pavement and in the rain.

Has anybody tested bridging terminals 4 (CG) and 12 (TS) to disable traction control? Service manual suggest it for drum tester. VSC light is blinking while this is on. Can you drive with this? Is hybrid system functioning normally? Can it be turned on/off with car on?

That's just entering the system into sensor check mode. I don't think it will disable the system and I would not suggenst switching to "Ready" with these pins connected/jumped.

    Hello all,
    My two cents' worth.

    1. I do not understand how Toyota expect me to drive when there is occasional "mushy" snow, which is typical of winter city driving.
    2. I do not understand how Toyota did not program a "snow" or "winter" mode, so that the ABS would bite the spinning wheel (at least upon startoff and at slow speeds) in order to restore traction on the "slower" driven wheel.
    3. I do not understand how Toyota did not include a "TORSEN" differential (aka HALDEX) in order to ensure that each driven wheel gets exactly what is expected... even as a pay-up option...

that being said, they say a good set of snows will solve the problem.

Dang I like to spin the Prius tires. LOL In a perfect world it would have came with a switch that allows us to turn TC off when wanted for different driving scenarios.

In a perfect world it would have been available with a super-charged hyabusa motor and covered with solar cells...
