Reprogrammed the backup beeper to one beep

FWIW, the dealer can do that for you for free. Had ours done. No problem at dealer. No charge too... Good you have a Prius aware scanner. Best of luck to you!

My dealer charges $30 to reprogram...

 

For $30 you could have gotten the MiniVCI cable from Amazon and program EVERYTHING at no additional cost provided that you have a 32bit windows OS. No drive to the dealer, no waiting in line. But yeah, got my car reprogramed at my local dealer for free and I didn't even bought the damn thing at the dealer. I also got my Sienna reprogramed at the same dealer too and again, didn't buy the van from the dealer. They're really good at taking care of its future customers.

 

Getting the back up warning proximity alert installed today. If it works as advertised I will need to do something about two devices beeping.

Really irritated Toyota does not have this as any option. Nobody cares about rear objects that are not moving 15MPH. What a mess.

 

Side note is where to find a 32 bit Win laptop. Man that is rare.

 

There's also a hack to get it to work with 64bit OS. I was in the hurry to get it to work so I used virtualbox with WinXP on my laptop instead and it works great.

 

Was going to buy the Limited Avalon but the leather interior smelled really bad on two on the lot. I want my car to smell like a new saddle (OLD Caddy smell). LOL Prius had more usable space with the fold down seats.

You don't have to. If you have a laptop Mac, Windows or Linux, you can use virtualbox and run any 32bit windows OS like Win2K, XP or Win7. Also there's already a Windows 64bit hack for the MiniVCI and Techstream.

 

The mouth-breathers at my dealership wanted $50. Come on, Elon. Please make dealerships a relic of the past.

 

The purpose of it is to remind you that it is in reverse, that is why it is a inside beep not an outside. Most likely the vehicle will be in EV mode waiting for you to press the pedal. Doesn't bother me. I think it is a good idea, but I appear to be in the minority.

 

Decided to order a wireless kit online as the one they showed me at the local shop looked like junk and only two sensors.
I miss my Caravan with the proximity alert. No damage to me or anyone else when I had it.

 

Keep us informed as to how it works out. I have seen the kits for under $100 where you mount the sensors in the bumper. There is also a kit where the sensors are behind the bumper so no drilling.
