I think I have a problem with my 2013 prius, last month I brought it. I refilled the tank up to the filler neck and driven in eco mode for 75 km in highway with 4 pax with only 4 stops. After I filled the tank to the neck I was able to pump only 3.3 leters only it means 22.7 km/liter that was very good. Then I reset my trip A and keep driving in city with eco mode for 363 km avg speed is 45km very short distence and fill the tank up to the neck this time I filled the tank with 29 liters it means 12.5 km/liter which is very low city driving can lower the mpg that much? When I asked dealer they told I should not use eco mode ( which I always used ) in low speed and short distance is this correct? they asked to use normal mode

    Yes, I've read the thread
    I DID Manual calculation
Expecting 22 km/per liter because in highway I got that
    Temperature 30c
    Drive 35 km per day
City driving average speed 50 km/h very short distance like every 5km stop
    No abnormal tire wear
    DRIVE always flat road
    MY Tire pressure 35 psi
    Always IN eco mode
    Use D mode
Use a/c manual mode at 27c
factory tire my total mileage only 2491 km

Don't worry about it. Filling neck to neck takes more than a couple refills to get a reliable average. Some forecourts are on a slope giving false readings. Just use the cars computer and minus 5% to get a pretty good average. Also, the Prius takes until about 5,000 miles (8,000 km) before the car is bedded in and more able to get its best economy readings.

Try it in 'normal' mode rather than Eco.

If that means that you put gas in it until you can SEE it in the filler neck, that is TOO MUCH.
Continuing to do that can plug up some of the emission control systems and make it run really bad.

Very short trips will kill mileage. Like any other ICE car the first minute after a cold start is extremely inefficient.
The shorter the trip, the greater the portion of the trip was done cold.
Additionally the colder the weather the worse this will be.

The key here is that your Prius will still manage to do much better than any conventional car with the same driving cycle. But it can't perform magic.
You can reduce this effect a little by installing an engine block heater but it might not actually pay for itself in the foreseeable future.

The OP lives in SriLanka. An engine block heater would be no use at all. ;)

It's not necessary to fill to the neck to accurately track/calculate your mileage. Personally, I fill 'till the pump shuts off. Note the odometer reading, note the fuel added. Drive 'till tank is getting low. Repeat. The calculation of single tank will may be slightly off, due to vagaries of the pump's shut-off mechanism. That will reciprocate on the subsequent fill up. And when you calculate accumulating tanks, the error is nil.

    That's 20.7 mpg US.
    That's pretty bad.

It's not bad, it's bordering on unbelievable.

We had another poster from SriLanka about a month ago saying they were also getting similar mpg's. It just doesn't sound right even in heavy traffic. The warm weather is ideal for the hybrid system. In the cold UK I would average high 40's/low 50's mpg UK with average road speeds of 12 mph over a 10 hour shift.

    I don't buy someone getting 20 mpg.

is that 21 mpg? can anyone decipher the o/p's first post regarding city traffic? it doesn't sound heavy, slow or stop and go to me. what does '363km, average speed is 45km is very short distance' mean?
