unfortunately, the trip meter tends to run one or two mpg's higher than fill up calculation.

Can you get an average mpg on a odometer trip?

yes, just reset a trip meter. it will give you miles travelled, average mpg's and average mph.

some plug ins are in limited roll out states. a lot of speculation, but no one is sure why.

Ok checked my trip a/b and it's only about 30 miles off the lifetime miles....44 mpg. Not bad but it should be better.

Maybe because we have maybe 2 of those gas stations and they are up north?

    >>>>Yes correct...I drive like a maniac with abrupt stops and accelerations sometimes. I need to take it down a notch maybe.<<<<

My sister drove a mail route for while and she was always telling me she could barely get it done in the allotted time, so if you have to drive like a maniac, I can understand. But if you do have more time, and can break that habit, I think that's the key to getting up at least closer to 50 MPG. I was an A type driver for a long time. Old habits die hard. It took a while. Now I look at others driving like that and can't imagine why I ever did it.

you can plug in at home, we don't have many of those 'gas stations' either.

Trip A will only reset when you reset trip A. Same with Trip B. Odo will reset every time you restart the car.

Well...kind of hard or nearly impossible to "Pulse and Glide" when you into delivery and "Stop and Go".

I would say your original contention that "Stop and Go" is best for a Prius is incorrect. No gas burning vehicle really does great in pure "Stop and Go" conditions.

If you are delivering mail? You're probably stopping a lot...in short amounts of distance. The engine would be warming up...and cooling down...and repeating the cycle the whole time. Every time it cools down...it will turn on to warm back up. The Prius is designed for clean emissions as well as fuel economy.

You could check all the usual culprits. And I would.

But I suspect that if you are doing a LOT of stop and go, in delivery...35 mpg might actually be pretty good. You have to think about what gas mileage you would be likely to get with the same conditions in a non-hybrid.

The reputation that The Prius does well in stop and go is probably born out of performance in traffic jams and congested highways. For me? It does do great in that type of creeping stop and go. BUT..the situation there is usually that the vehicle is well warmed up before reaching the traffic jam, and the creeping along usually has a finite start and stop. That is, I'm stopping and starting and creeping along for 10-15 minutes, then back to regular highway driving. The stop and start is NOT constant.

In a delivery vehicle scenario? With short distance and numerous stops? I might believe 35 mpg is what you would get.

The EPA does gas mileage testing with the car all warmed up, most of us drive from a cold start.

If you can, drive to the far end of your route then deliver mail on the way home. The car will be warmed up when you are stop and go

on my C, i have been averaging around 44 mpg when doing 100% city driving. i realized the longer you stay in the city, stop and go traffic, do very short trips hurts the mpg drastically.

Today I went up to 44 mpg because I was trying the pulse and glide technique. I don't have it down completly but working on it.

Ok so with the 2014 prius c display it shows 'charge', 'Eco' and 'power'. I assume the best fuel economy would be to stay in the Eco and not the power and the even better fuel economy would be the low part of 'Eco' which is when the 'ev' light comes on. Is this correct? Is the 'power' mode all gas and no electric? That's what I hit when my rpm's are high.

I am going to answer as if it is the same as my v, then the actual c owners will point and laugh.

If you hit the brakes lightly, you start to fill the CHG. Once you are pressing hard enough to completely fill CHG, any more braking will be the disc brakes, rather than the regeneration. (because the Prius emulates engine braking, CHG may show tiny amounts of charging when 'coasting'. This is why 'glide' is not just coasting) When slowing, I try to just stay above the CHG area, as converting electricity to battery chemistry is not very efficient.

Let the computers choose when to EV, do not try to fool them.

In the v, above the line in the middle of the green ECO is where it never will EV. Below that line the computers may choose to EV.
In PWR, fuel economy is not the prime concern of the computers. I tend to stay in PWR for very brief moments, then cruise.

    >>>>Is the 'power' mode all gas and no electric?<<<<

When you are in the the power (red) section of the gauge you are most likely using both gas and electric. Use it when you need it, but try to avoid it if possible. The best fuel economy is in the lower portion, and as you noticed, that's when the EV symbol will pop up which means you are running on electric only. I believe the maximum speed you can go and stay in EV mode is about 43 mph. It requires a light touch and usually a pretty flat road to stay in that mode. When you start going up hills the gas engine will probably kick in to maintain speed.

Change the dashboard gauge to the Energy Monitor and watch that for a while. It's the best way to see how the car works. The car controls everything based on what you do with your right foot. It's fascinating to watch. It's like driving a computer

Congrats on getting up to 44 mpg. Sounds like you are getting the hang of it.

I keep trip A for lifetime mpg, but the trip odometers roll back to 0 after 9999. The EV miles and % don't reset, but still are calculated based on the trip odometer (or something like that) so they're wrong.

not sure i'm following you. for example, if you reset trip b by holding the display button down, miles mpg's and average speed should reset. ev miles and % are on another screen in the pip.
