I am at my wits end here and could really use some help. Started about a month ago, no speedometer or fuel gauge (the display up on the dash). So, somewhere I found out about unplugging the 12v battery and that worked...for a while! After a few times doing that, I read somewhere that it is a sign that the 12v battery is going. So, I took it in to the local auto parts store, they tested it and said it was good. I bought one anyhow since it was about 3-1/2 years old. That worked for about 2 weeks, but now it's back! I've unplugged the battery and again it has ( temporarily ) fixed this issue. The other thing that happens is that it is difficult to turn off and requires you to hold the power button for an extended period of time. I guess part of my problem is I am not sure what to call that display and my searches are coming up with all sorts of things. I have about 160,000 and have had no problems. Any advise is greatly appreciated.
Thank you. If I understood that correctly I am past the extended warranty and it will not be covered by dealer. So, the next question is what have people been paying for dealer to replace this? Thanks.
The extended warranty is for a 9 year period. Combination Meter Warranty Enhancement | PriusChat If that period has expired for your car then my guess is you will pay $600 or more to a dealer, to have a new part installed. An alternative would be for you to install a used combination meter but you would then need to comply with your state's requirements regarding installation of a used odometer and documenting the difference in mileage reading between the original and the replacement.
I can't believe it, but the dealer took care of it 100% under the extended warranty! They said I was just a few months short of the end of the extended warranty. They had it from a Friday to Monday and gave me a loaner while they fixed it. Thank you very much. If I hadn't known they probably would have just charged me for it!
