I made it to 205,000 mi this week. I love my Prius its a daily driver. I have used it for pickup and delivery car for my dental lab since I got it in November 2003 its a 2004. I had to repair the HV battery just before it hit 200,000 mi. I read all the forum technical advice and experiences and used the information to replace a bad cell in the HV battery. Thanks to everyone who contributed!! I have started replacing cells for others here in Huntsville, Alabama. I think the reason my battery failed early is it spent nearly 2 years in garage when I bought a Honda hybrid and my wife took the Prius. She drives less than 75 miles a week. I wrecked the Honda after 2 years and bought a new Prius which she took so I'm back in the 04 and happy!

At its old age I'm thinking of buying a grid charger to improve its battery performance and life span. Any reviews of hybridautomotive.com's grid charger? Yes I did, but it was the cheepest one around at the time and it was from a trusted dealer. I would have rather bought one from from a individual for a cheeper price. But it was in very good condition other then some paint chips on the hood. Oh and it had new 12v optima, and new tires
Wow, if you think that $500,000 is cheap, I'd like to sell you my 2004 with 181K miles. I would let it go for that price.
Turned over 200,000 miles on my '04 this week. Purchased from original owner in '06 with 42,000 miles for $16,000. 1) Did you replace the HV BATTERY PACK? no 2) Did you replace the 12v lead-acid battery? once, yellow optima 3) Did you replace the hybrid transaxle fluid? yes at 100,000 4) Did you replace the brake pads? yes, recently 5) Your lifetime MPG (if available)? 52.2 6) How often do you CHANGE YOUR OIL? change myself every 10,000 miles with whatever 100% synthetic I fine on sale, something close to 5/40. Currently I need to add about 1 qt. in those 10,000 miles. Waterpump leaked and was fixed under warranty at 100,000 miles Had cruise control fixed by replacing clock spring Left rear coil spring snapped a few months ago. Maybe result of constantly running high psi?? Currently showing p1121 code and I hear what sounds like a water pump often turning on and off, so I need to get that checked. PA P
Just hit my 200,000 mark and my current tank, I am averaging 60.1 MPG. This car continues to amazing me and all my friends. They can't believe that the batteries are still working... and I am still getting AMAZING MPG's. It is about to be retired, wife might be getting a new car and I will be taking her Lincoln MKZ Hybrid, I didn't think I wanted to wait until the new ones came out, maybe i will get one off this lease... Got offers of $4,000 to buy mine. See pics below of my 200,000! Transmission fluid drain and refill at 130,000 Spark Plug replacement 130,000 PCV replacement 130,000 Cleaned K&N 4 Times now Moved from Regular Oil to Synthetic at 150,000 and then back to blend at 180,000 (didn't want to do my own anymore) Still on Original Breaks, Shocks, break fluid, 13v battery Water Pump replaced and coolant changed under recall notice at around 125,000 New Passenger Mirror housing (Bad Mailbox) New Rear Tail Light (Bad Meijer Parking Lot) Replaced Hatch Lift Shocks, as hatch didn't like to stay up all the time I estimate my lifetime MPG at aprox 56.5 MPG, most of my driving is highway driving (57-62MPH, and i bought the car new in 2007.
I am over 230000 on a 2008 Prius. I bought it because of the mpg. I have spent $2,000 on repairs: 1) took it in to have the water pump that was a recall issue replaced and they found the other water pump needing replaced, 2) a valve needed replacing. Just today, I took the door panel off (using info posted here) to grease the driver side window track with grease. I changed oil between 5,000 and 8,000 miles usually, but many times have gone to 10,000 miles before changes. I go to about 7,500 miles before oil changes since I have been retired. I always use Quaker State oil. I also changed my brake pads myself (again, based on what I learned on this site) at about 125,000 miles. I changed the serpentine belt at about 175,000 miles due to seeing cracks in it. My wife has the car for the next couple of days so I can't take a picture of it at this time.
Which brings up a question. What can a retired Prius be used for? I was thinking maybe taking the battery pack and engine out and using them as an emergency power source in my home. Or using the battery pack with solar panels to run my house lights on and stuff like that.
My 04 was bought in 03 and delivered to me in late November of 03 after a few months of waiting to get it. I was crazy excited! I have never enjoyed a car like I have the Prius. I kept a notebook for 4 years with records of every fill up the mileage the miles per gallon etc. I have only replaced the 12V battery, and the inverter coolant pump until a few months ago when I replaced a cell in the HV battery. The problem happened with about 195,000 miles on car. I have put nearly 20,000 miles on it since replacing the hybrid cell with no other problems!!
2009, reached 200,000 miles this week. 1) Did you replace the HV battery pack? No 2) Did you replace the 12v lead-acid battery? No 3) Did you replace the hybrid transaxle fluid? No, at 150,000, Dealer checked fluid and stated replacement was not needed 4) Did you replace the brake pads? Front pads only at 200,000 5) Your lifetime MPG (if available)? Approx 50 6) How often do you change your oil? What brand / product did you use? every 10,000 miles, Mobil 1 synthetic Spark plugs and PCV valve replaced at 135,000 Engine and Inverter coolant replaced at 150,000 Air filters every ~ 30,000 3 sets of tires, Bridgestone Ecopia EP422 Water pump, Steering Shaft, Accelerator pedal recalls at 150,000 Extremely dependable vehicle. Only issue that I am just starting to get is some engine pinging when accelerating up hills.
I'm a little late, but I'm new here. 1) Did you replace the HV battery pack? No 2) Did you replace the 12v lead-acid battery? No 3) Did you replace the hybrid transaxle fluid? No 4) Did you replace the brake pads? I was told at my next oil change, it would be recommended, but they are still safe. He was just worried about the mileage. 5) Your lifetime MPG (if available)? I average 45 driving hard (around 90-95 on the interstate) and 56 in town running here and there. 6) How often do you change your oil? What brand / product did you use? Every 2-3 weeks/4500-5000 miles. Toyota standard 5w30...the synthetic blend was put in once by mistake and it caused problems. I absolutely love my 2007 Prius! I'm sure she will start needing things soon, but I can't tell yet. The dealership always says she is great shape.

What brand / product did you use? every 10k miles... Mobil1 Extended Performance 5W-30 7) How about post a picture of 200,000 miles on ODO? attached
Just hit 200k this morning in my 2007, which I bought new. The only thing that's broken is the water pump (ICE), which I replaced for about $100 using Toyota parts. It's also survived being sideswiped by a drunk at 50 mph last year. 1) Did you replace the HV battery pack? No. 2) Did you replace the 12v lead-acid battery? No. 3) Did you replace the hybrid transaxle fluid? Once. 4) Did you replace the brake pads? I replaced the front pads and rotors only because of rust on the rotor; the pads still had life. The rears are just about ready for replacement now though. 5) Your lifetime MPG (if available)? Unknown, I'd guess about 42 though. My commute is all hilly highway driving at 80 mph. 6) How often do you change your oil? What brand / product did you use? Every 5000 miles, any full synthetic. 7) How about post a picture of 200,000 miles on ODO? Don't mind the check engine light, nothing is actually wrong, I just have to figure out exactly what the code means and not just their parts at it.
not just their parts at it???????? Surely it's "not just throw parts at it". (Don't call me Shirley - I know). Why do you think nothing is actually wrong if the check engine light is on? Don't wait too long before determining what the DTCs are.
