    Congratulations!
I bought my Volt a year ago last July and enjoy it very much.
Be sure to introduce yourself at the gm-volt.com forum.

You should be able to do better than 5%. I got 1.49%, not from the dealer, outside financing, with little effort. Wife's was a refinance from Honda at 1.99% to Pentagon Federal Credit Union (no Federal affiliation) at 1.49% and mine is from new Alliant Credit Union (Illinois), I live in Florida. I found these rates on fatwallet.com.

Yep. Many credit unions will also refinance recently purchased used cars also. Penfed requires membership, but that is easily acquired by anybody by becoming a member of their affiliated 'friends' organization. I paid $15 years ago for the privilege.

They are not a charity however, and if OP is in debt up to his gills or has a bad credit rating he may not qualify. Only one way to find out.

Then the person should stop spending and spend more time at bogleheads.org. You can't spend your way to financial freedom.

Yeah, I unfortunately filed for bankruptcy in 2008. I have rebuilt my credit to pre-bk levels, but still.. that sometimes keeps me from the "best" rates. Still, 4.99% is a great rate for somebody who has a past bankruptcy on their record!

I have my boat loan and my Prius loan with my current CU and they are at 5.99 & 4.99%, respectively. They dont require life/disability insurance on the note (most banks/CU's around here DO) and they are conveniently located right by my work.

Pguy, is your driving record keeping your insurance rates high ? If not, then definitely shop around. Actually, shop around anyway !
I cannot think of any good reason for Prius and Volt rates to be so different.

Nope. Clean as a whistle. Im also a driver educatior instructor for the State of Michigan :D

I think it was my specific insurance co. Today I priced out Progressive, and they were $50 cheaper for the Volt per month vs. my Prius! I would go with Progressive, for sure.

If you qualified at PenFed for their 2.84% loan it would save you $720 over a 48 month loan. Good for you in knocking down the big cost -- car insurance. Now knock down the interest cost!

    Addendum: numbers corrected

    Im trying :D

The problem I am having now isnt numbers; today when I test drove the car again the Check Engine light was on, so I pressed the OnStar butto and they gave me 3 codes that were "active". I told the dealer about them and they agreed to fix the car.

Buuuuut after researching a little, the codes seem to be common and can be reoccurring, requiring numerous trips to the dealership service department.

Now, again, Im flip flopping on NOT buying this particular Volt

Dont worry, I dont vote or do anything else in this manner.. :D I need to sleep on this until Monday and go from there. I do NOT want to go from a great reliable car (Prius) to a medicore, spotty reliable car (Volt). Then again, I could be just over-worrying about this.....:coffee:

    Uh oh
In the meantime shop around for cheaper Prius insurance ;)

And to think that the dealership did not tell you about the problem. I'm flabbergasted ;) ;) :p

Well, yes and no. I mean, the car has been sitting on the lot next to another Volt. Maybe the 12v ran low.... could be something or nothing.

The salesman said absolutely the issues will be remedied by Monday. It seems one of the DTC's was one that gets set when the voltage coming IN to the car isnt consistent. Very common with the Volt & Leaf from what Ive read. The other DTC was related to the electric cabin heat, of which after the OnStar Rep told me that stored code, I tried it and it was in fact INOP, blowing ambient air when I had it set to 90f. And the third DTC was related to the charging inconsistency.

Now what makes the salespoop so sure ? If he knows what the problem is, you should ask yourself why it was not remedied already. And if he does not, then his forecast is BS. Of course it only takes a minute to clear codes ... but that does not fix the problem.

My opinion: unless this car is under warranty and you have time and patience to wait while it is in the shop, run away fast. But first tell the salespoop my opinion of him. And do not go back to that place.

Haha! It only has the remaining battery warranty (8/100k).
You are right though - what if the issue requires parts to be ordered or they are backed up at the shop?? That was pretty irresponsible to promise me that.

I joined a Volt forum and to be honest, I think it deterred me more than it convinced me. But I wont use that as my only factor in staying or walking away from this Volt.

Its noteworthy that when I bought my Prius in 2007, I came here and lurked and was totally SOLD on the Prius, after noticing the problems people were having werent life or death and Toyota actually was really good with goodwill anyways. I dont get that vibe on the Volt forums unfortunately

Now imagine if the problem is not covered by the battery warranty.

Hell, just the diagnostics costs involved in tracking down a subtle problem is going to eat you alive.

Is this a GM dealership ? If so and you really want the car, you could demand that the car be qualified as CPO so that a bumper to bumper warranty for 12 months applies. Let the salespoop put his money where his mouth is.

    :LOL::LOL:
Stop it!! Im already struggling enough with the situation. I asked today if GM would still sell me their warranty (GMPP) on a 2011 with 57k miles and the salesman said they would. Thats an option.

Its a large dealership in my area that is a conglomerate - they sell every make. The particular one I went to today kind of specializes in Ford and Toyotas. But the one 15 minutes away is a Chevy store. Theres another about 1 hour away that I think sells Honda and Chryslers.
