I just got an iPhone 6 and notice the following new problem with my 2006 Prius and the bluetooth connection:

When I start the car, my phone connects automatically, which is fine. But about 4/5 of the time the Prius screen shows that I'm in "Talk" mode, as if I had just initiated a call (which I haven't). I have to "hang up" in order to disconnect. Until I disconnect, of course, my radio is cut off and a call timer continues to advance. But no phone number is associated with this "call".

On my phone itself, there's no evidence of a new call. So, it would appear that the problem is strictly on the Prius, as if I had initiated the call using some control button on the car.

This problem never occurred with my iPhone 4S or, for that matter, my iPhone 3G.

    Any ideas about this?

Is the phone also charging, could be the Hello/hey siri function ?

Nope. I disable the "Hey Siri" function and I also don't allow Siri from the locked screen. And the phone wasn't charging.

The last thing I tried was to make a call from the Prius to my land line phone which forwards to my cell phone. As expected, this call failed and I got a message to that effect. Subsequently, the problem hasn't occurred. My hunch was that somehow the Prius thought it had a pending outgoing call, perhaps from before I switched from my iPhone 4S and then paired my iPhone 6. (I had deleted the iPhone 4S definition and also deleted and then re-paired the iPhone 6, as part of my troubleshooting). My tentative hypothesis was that the failure of this new outgoing call would "clear" the pending call. But this was mere speculation. However, since I did this, a few days ago, the problem hasn't recurred.

However, I'm not completely confident that I've fixed this, because even when the problem was occurring, there was a period of a few days when it didn't, so I'll just wait a bit longer before I'm confident it's really fixed.

Well, if it's any encouragement, I have the exact same car (2006) and did the exact same phone transition (4S -> 6) and both my old and new phones have worked perfectly with the car.

First, what version of iOS are you on? I am on 8.0.2, but it was also OK on 8.0.0. (Skipped 8.0.1). iOS8 has other issues, but I digress.... :-/

    It sounds to me like it's one of your apps that is opening the Bluetooth connection in the background. I would suggest the following troubleshooting steps;

    1. Make sure all your apps are quit and closed
    2. Try doing a Reset on the settings and re-pair
    3. Do a backup & restore with iTunes.

    Hope that helps.

    Kevin,

Your hypothesis is interesting. As it happens, the problem hasn't occurred since I tried the "technique" mentioned in my last posting. But I'm suspicious that really wasn't the fix (since I don't really know why it should be), so I'd like to follow up on your idea.

Could you suggest a possible app that would try to open a Bluetooth connection, other than the phone "app" itself? As I said earlier, when the symptoms occur, there's no indication on my phone that a call was initiated. So, perhaps another app running in the background was responsible. But since this problem began only with my iPhone 6, running iOS 8.0.0 or 8.0.2 (I'm not sure if I'd upgraded to the latter before the problem started), this might very well be a new app that came along only with the new iOS.

What other apps try to connect via Bluetooth?

    Thanks.

To be honest, I really have no idea. As far as I know, the 2nd Gen Prius only supports the Bluetooth headset/car profile, so I may be completely off base that an app may be causing it, however that it surely one thing that would differ between two identical phones, so logically it COULD be a factor. And it is quick a risk-free to simply shut down any running apps, thus that was recommendation #1. ;)

If your phone is pairing fine now, then I wouldn't touch anything unless the issue comes back. Don't rock the boat... LOL.

As a completely side note, what is driving me crazy is that Apple seems to have a serious bug in iOS8 with their "Instant Hotspot". I also have an iPad Air on the latest iOS like my phone (8.0.2) - as does my wife - and neither of us can get the Instant Hotspot to work. Our iPhone 6's now show up as a separate 'Personal Hotspot' showing the LTE signal and battery life, but whenever either of us try to connect to our iPads to our phones, we get "Remote Hotspot Failure - unable to start personal hotspot on <phone name>". Googling this shows we are not alone, and I have tried all the solutions on the web (reset settings, reboot, keychain settings, etc.) but to no avail. We both upgraded from 4S phones prior to this, and I have a feeling there is something in iCloud that didn't go right during the device upgrade. But so far Apple has not seemed to offer a fix.

Worst part is, if I want to use hotspot now, since my phone does not show up as a traditional wifi signal, I have to choose "Other", then type in the SSID, choose WPA2 and type the password.... EVERYTIME. It doesn't remember the wifi signal, I guess because there is an Instant Hotspot - which doesn't work. ARGH. So, ironically, the "Instant" feature has inadvertently made the process far more tedious. Thanks Apple.

Slight sidetrack: I'm having a different issue with my 2007 Prius and the iPhone 6+.

Do you guys have any problems voice dialing via Siri when the phone is connected to Prius Bluetooth? When I try, Siri starts to make a call, but ultimately fails before it even rings on the other end.

I fixed mine with the same problem by pulling the piece of crap out. I put in a new Pioneer SPH DA 120 app radio 4 with Apple carplay. Awesome setup and with the right hardware all pretty much plug and play.

Can you provide pictures? I am interested in this radio. I found this that seems like it would work:

Did you need any more adapters to make the radio work?
