    I thought I posted last night, but apparently it didn't go through. Here's the post:

    Well, got it to the dealer today. Lo and behold, the charger is defective. Part backordered with no ETA. Seems to be rare that this happens, as I can't find anything online about it. I'm in a loaner car that Toyota is paying for.

    ETA today is about 2 weeks. I hope it's correct, as I'm unable to drive my car until then and still making a payment.......

    I wonder if BAAA had the same issue as you and maybe the 2015s are at higher risk for an issue? I find it surprising that there are so few 2015s out there yet 2 people have had this issue already with them.

    I wouldn't want my new car wrenched on.
    But I'm glad you took it to the dealer and didn't disconnect your 12V battery without knowing what would happen after disconnecting it.;)

    I've been looking around for months now for info on the cars battery pack and charging system too.
    There isn't much out there yet. And I've been told the service manual is close to a thousand pages,
    which I would gladly pay for if I could buy one.

    Hubby was told the '15 PiP is the same as the last couple of years. I don't think there's anything different about the charging mechanism.

    i think you're right. you got a bad one unfortunately. only one so far, i guess that's pretty good quality, unless you're the one.

    Well I guess you're making a payment on a car that isn't racking up miles, and instead get to rack up miles on the loaner. Not a bad deal. That said, if it's just the charger, I wonder why the dealer wouldn't let you just take your own car and drive in HV mode only until the charger arrives....

    I asked if I could drive it, and the tech said he didn't recommend it. So there it sits. It got leather installed in it yesterday. I hope.

    Well look on the bright side. You get to drive someone else's car while leather is being installed - something you wouldn't have been able to do if the charger hadn't failed.

    I do find the technician's comment about driving the car questionable, especially since the car needs to be driven to the upholstery place to have leather installed (assuming these are sewn in and not leather seat covers).

    Most dealers, I believe, use Katzkin. They're not sewn in, but a replacement of the stock upholstery (it comes all as a kit, ready to slip over your seat frame, etc). So the fitment is excellent. But when I had mine done, there were no additional miles put on my car (well, it had less than 1 additional mile, but the dealer had a big parking structure and large lot).

    Later, I read in the Accessories forum here that some installers will come to your place of work or home, remove all the components (seats, back seats, door panels, arm rest), take it back to their shop, do the work, then bring it back and put it all back in your car.

    Dealer was going to give me a loaner car while leather was being installed. But I already had it! And yeah, I wondered about the leather. They take it off-site. It's on their hands it it blows up........

    This tech is a complete blithering idiot! He knows absolutely nothing about the cars he services!

    You can purchase a Plug-in Prius and drive it 200,000 miles without ever plugging it in. It is absolutely, positively not necessary to plug that car in, EVER. I've had one for 2 1/2 years and it had 50,000 miles and I've gone long periods without plugging it in. I absolutely assure you that you don't need to plug it in. Just drive it!

    Second thing: If the 12V battery is disconnected and re-connected, the "Check Hybrid System" message will appear. But it will go away after you start and power off the car 2 or 3 times. This can also happen if you plug and unplug certain electrical connections within the car, or when replacing certain fuses.

    If you ever get "Check Hybrid System," just turn the car off, then on and off twice more. If the message goes away, forget you ever saw it, unless it happens repeatedly. If the message doesn't go away after three startups of the car, it probably won't start at all and it needs to go in for repair
