So we got a 3d printer at work and i was able to find these custom 3d templates that another prius owner had made for the stock rim center caps. So I printed them out and painted them over the weekend. Outcome is seen in attachments. I am very happy with how they turned out though i think i could have went with a slightly darker blue to closer match the toyota "hybrid blue" but I can always repaint them. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks
Nice job. I'm still mystified by 3-D printers. In some ways it's almost Orwellian in nature. Then again, there may be a time when we can print ourselves a car. Now THAT would be neat.
I'm hopeful for a device that creates food, fresh lobster for an omelet, eggs, cheese, onions and peppers, no need to drive to the supermarket and buy old outdated produce. Then make the materials necessary to fix the tractor, ah, a new traction battery for the prius, ah, anti-gravitation(magnetic) shoes so one can fly oh, wait....gold
So basically, you were using an expensive new piece of equipment at work, to make toys for yourself? YOU'RE FIRED! Just kidding.... Looks good, I agree with your instinct to darken the blue.
What make and model of 3D printer does your company have? Can you direct me to the stl file you used?
We have a cubify cubepro. I used the stl file here Toyota Prius Wheel Center Cap - Power Symbol by schlem - Thingiverse
