I'd love to see some real numbers which support the idea that you can improve the mileage n the Prius by using pulse-and-glide. Until then, I remain skeptical.

"Better safe than sorry" is a good policy in lieu of actual knowledge, but actual knowledge is always better. 18 ga wire is rated for 16 amps over short distances, but longer distances are a different matter. Heavier gauges are required. For something as important as charging the Prius, heavier gauges are always the safer bet.

dc requires larger gauge than ac, but i've no idea why.

Probably because the current is flowing on average around 70% of stated draw (if I recall my math for AC). There are instantaneous periods where voltage and current are zero (as each cycle goes positive to negative and back again).

At least, that's my guess. :)

I know I seem to be alone in this request, but when posting estimated EV range, could everyone PLEASE specify whether the Climate Control (even just a fan running with no AC!) is on or off? That already introduces a 10%+ confounder.

That's because this topic has been beaten to death already over the past 2.5 years and other influencing factors like temperature are not included either.

ESTIMATE will vary. ACTUAL will too.

It's the overall outcome that matters, since blending should be taken into consideration.

Thank you for all the replies. I will document my average mpg and see if the EV range will increase.

Keep in mind that EV range really doesn't mean much. For example, today was one of those started away from home. I only had 1.2 miles of estimate EV range leftover from yesterday. Despite that, the end result was 6 miles of EV travel.

I see it vary rather significantly depending on how I drive. Slower typically equates to more. That's true for warmer weather too.

The reason it doesn't mean much is due to the fact that the same electricity is being used whether it gets logged as EV or not. You'd have to carefully document kWh instead to even stand a chance at confirming a difference over time. 2 months is no where near enough either.

An EV charge is a quart of fuel in my scenario.
