P3019 = Battery block 9 becomes week. I am planning on replace the battery cell in my 2002 Prius....My question is .....How would you identify block 9 ?....Are blocks numbered?.....How many cells are per each block?...If each block has 2 cells ?then would I have to replace both cells? Answers would be greatly appreciated!! Thank you!!
1. The best way is to use a voltmeter to measure the voltage of each of the 38 modules. You'll find that at least one of the 38 modules shows much lower voltage compared to the others. 2. The blocks are not physically numbered. I believe the numbering starts from the traction battery ECU side of the traction battery. 3. Two modules per block 4. Actually, considering your battery is 12-13 years old, I suggest replacing all 38 modules unless your idea of fun and entertainment is to open up the battery case every few months to replace yet another module.
Please post the module position, #1 by the ECU, and voltages. That a middle module failed is consistent with a heat stress pattern we've seen in other batteries. But at a minimum, replace the modules on each side as they have been subject to heat stress from the failing module. Bob Wilson
Battery case has numbering on it from ECU side. Each block has 2 modules. Although you will likely find one of the pair that is most likely the culprit. I sell modules in pairs, since although only one may be failing now, another may show up fairly soon. (As Patrick alluded to.) As long as it is still fun for you, you can keep replacing modules. But not everyone finds it an enjoyable hobby.
