So you said you did not come to argue?

You willfully ignored my mention of mandate (see 1932, 1964...) - i.e. Congress would support Presidential proposals. that and ignore the mention of tax breaks to balance the gas tax. This topic does not matter - you would do this on any topic just to argue. This is not my counter argument, but documentation of Troy Heagy - troller for Google.

Enjoy your increased hits when people search for trolls!

I hate to admit it but I find myself agreeing with TH.
Even the current President can't flout the Constitution enough to levy a gas tax....and these taxes do tend to disproportionately affect poor people. This means that no mandate to increase gas taxes significantly will ever succeed - even if you wrap such a tax in a "road tax" package.
    People are smarter than that.
I would think that higher CAFE standards would be a better approach, and the automobile industry has an astonishingly good record of fielding cars that are still fun to drive despite the higher CAFE bar.
I'm not especially wild about that approach either - but it is the lesser of three evils.

It's a world full of hate. Please get over it and move on.

Well if you figure it out let us know!
Yesterday a raised beater diesel pickup with the same 40" tires as your guy pulls into the parking spot next to me. I was on my 30 min lunch break- the whole time Mr. Ecology was parked there, he kept the engine running. Why keep the engine running for 30 min for no reason? Just brain dead I suspect.....

I think the OP is being overly sensitive here.
Basically, I see bumper stickers, signs and other things on vehicles that denote social and political views that I may or may not agree with all the time.

I personally don't like the idea of using your vehicle, bumper or otherwise as a platform for advancing a social or political viewpoint and/or sharing some clever witticism.

I've never changed my political/social viewpoint on an issue because I read a comment on somebody's bumper. And as far as humor goes? It's pretty rare I see anything I find really amusing or funny. ( Once in a blue moon something will be unique and clever enough...but pretty rarely).

The fad of putting representative stick figures on your vehicle as a public display of your current social situation, I really dislike.

    BUT...HUGE BUT....

    People can do it.

This guy bought the bumper sticker, he obviously thinks it is funny. You said he wasn't aggressive, he just kind of wanted to make sure you saw it. Who knows how long he was waiting to find a Prius to pass and show off his new "humor"?

    Well..at least he is sharing....

In this case? I'd really just ignore it.

The number of "We Don't Get Any Respect" and/or "We Are Persecuted As Prius Owners" threads, really leads me to believe that Prius Owners are a masochistic bunch that enjoy the role of fringe dwelling outsider being misunderstood and persecuted by the "unenlightened" masses.

In general? I get passed by a lot of vehicles advertising ideas and viewpoints I dislike and/or would never agree with. The platform is purely reactionary. That is....it's a bumper sticker. I can ignore this.

You'll never EVER be able to drive a stake through the heart of the IRS.
Politicians (on both sides) derive too much power from trying to control people's lives with taxes and you short all of that to ground with a simple tax.
I don't care if it's one...or even all of the "big three" (sales, income, property tax) just make it simple.
    No exemptions.
    No deductions.
    No breaks.
    No loop-holes.
    No carve-outs.
    NO EXCEPTIONS.
    ....NONE.

    Calcuguess a rate.
    Apply the rate.
Graduate it as necessary for lower income people.

    ---done.

There should be constitutional amendment that mandates all tax code has to be written on one 8-1/2" x 11.0" single sided, single spaced, piece of paper. :)

The 1st amendment forbids Congress from taxing churches (though the States could do it & many of them do).
No I didn't Chuck. I addressed it headon with a very polite & logical point: "Your idea [raise gas tax/lower income tax] would likely drive more poor persons into bankruptcy, as they would not have the money to cover their sudden tax increase."

Under income tax the poor pay nothing. Under gas tax they get hit harder (it's a regressive tax that sucks a higher % of poor persons' income). But you ignored my polite point, and started lashing out with insults like "troll". Why not just throw in "donkey" too? Because an insult is an insult. There is no difference between one insult and the other.

BTW the person who wrote this following sentence debunks himself. He says "Troy does not even own an Insight for the moment [2004]." Actually I purchased my insight in 2002. That guy's comments have no more gravitas than the guy who claims "Obama does not have a birth certificate." Both of the sentences in quotes are bunk.

    BS!!!
    Bologna!
    Civics knowledge: Fail.

Modern tithes and taxes are only different from the Romans and the Pharisees ONLY in that we use paper checks and envelopes instead of coins and we call our money changers "treasurers" and they don't need tables.
The "conversion" takes place on church books rather than on tables in the sanctuary.
    Otherwise?
Nothing much has changed in the last few thousand years at all.

The fact that the current "tax exemption status" applies equally to the Southern Baptists and NAMBLA ought to be something of a warning sign, but churches are too bedazzled by getting more money on Sunday morning to see the obvious conflict of interest.
    See also: Marriage.
This may sound harsh to theists (l know...I am one) but the sooner that the church divests itself from these relationships with the government, and starts worrying about the The Great Commission, rather than nickles and noses.....the better off we'll all be.
The reason that the First Amendment exists is to protect the nation from becomming a theocricy so that the churches will not be sullied by the government.....NOT the other way around.
    However (comma!) for right now?
    Nickles and noses still rule.

There IS no law prohibiting taxing churches.
Maybe if churches start paying property tax then we'll have smaller snactuaries AND smaller groups of people that we have to deliver food to. ;)

The power to tax is the power to destroy. The 1st amendment prohibits Congress from using its taxation power to drive free exercise of religion into almost non-existence (as taxation has done with the exercise of smoking).

    I used "hate" Priuses.
    Then I bought one.
    Now I hate myself. ;) :) :D

Oh, the troller Troy Heagy got bored again.

Since he wants to inject politics and religion, maybe this thread needs to be moved into Fred's House of Politics.

Yes, but if someone offered me $250k for either of my children, I would turn them down flat (and I strongly suspect you would too!). Children offer a whole spectrum of intangible "returns on investment" that cash, stocks, and bonds do not.

Before I bought our first Prius, I used to drive THIS!

I would get the exact opposite reaction driving the Royal Barge than I do with the Prius. SUV's on country roads used to run off onto the berm when they saw me coming. Now with the Prius they don't even register that I am there pushing me off the edge to avoid them at least once per week.

I do not see what the issue is? You are upset what he had printed his back window? So what.
