The spot in front of the steering wheel is just a bare patch of dashboard. Why not put it to use? I can put my GPS or my phone there any time, attached with magnets.

love it. wouldn't it be grey if toyota made a shallow tray there with a flat bottom so you don't need magnets, velcro, whatever?

I put my Scangauge there. I "temporarily" anchored it with loops of masking tape at the underside ends.

Prius is very much like the original and current Mini -- right hand drive in home market and left hand most everywhere else. So the instrumentation package goes in the center of the dashboard!

I don't know if I can get magnets to stick there in the Arizona heat. Any particular kind or special adhesive?

Why attach anything there? Any small accident and you have the object break free at 40 mph and hit you between the eyes.

you do realize that for anything to hit you in the face that's on the dash in front of you, you'd need to be going in reverse at a pretty good clip and have a real sudden stop.

If you are moving forward and have a sudden stop the GPS will hit the windshield.

My two concerns would be having to make changes while you are driving. you end up having to reach through or around the steering wheel. Second concern... woudl be the magnets. Would they affect the memory storage on the phone or GPS.

That being said I'm going to use magnets on an old Garmin GPS suction cup mount for my i phone on my Cmax.

I have an aluminum bracket on my golf push cart with magnets on it... and I stick the phone on it while i'm golfing for my yardage app.

I figure I coulld stick some magnets to the garmin mount and mimic the golf cart magnetic mount.

I put Scangauge right on steering wheel with large rubber band so that I can easily monitor HV battery temp and fan motor speed with engine temp whilst driving.
(At far left in pic. Note also custom leather-wrapped steering wheel!)

Yeah a bit untidy but it works for me. I have to disengage the Tom Tom regularly for updates.

I put Tom Tom over on the A window on the right side, routing the 12v power cable across the lower glove compartment door and up alongside the front edge if the passenger door so that minimal cabling is actually on the dash,
