no need for alarm. research some threads here regarding dash rattles, or take it back to the dealer. unfortunately, these cars aren't always perfect. (just mine:cool:)

Are you sure it is in the dash? These sounds have a way of traveling. Might be a seatbelt. I have a new Avalon and it has a rattling sound and I don't know where it is coming from. It does not rattle all the time. I think I'll have to learn to live with mine.

If the rattling is continuous then I think I would take it back to your Toyota service department and have them go with you for a drive. Maybe they can fix it. I had to take my new Avalon in for something else and I asked them to see if they could fix my rattle but it is a "sometimes" rattle and it was not rattling at the time. You paid a lot of money for the car so if it is bothering you, take it in.

I'm kind of thinking that most cars probably have that problem. Seems that way. I had rattles in the Prius I had and now I have one in my Avalon and I know I will never find this one. It sure bothers me but I'll have to live with it. It's frustrating.

I don't have any rattles, but I do have annoying clicking sounds. I looked under the dash and Toyota uses some thin really cheap looking covers over wires. These covers are not fastened securely and they move making the clicking sounds. I looked under the dash of my Honda Civic and found it to be very different. Honda uses nice and thick covers and they are securely bolted down so there is absolutely no movement and they don't have the click (rattling) problem.

I think the Prius is so expensive to build, that Toyota cuts corners on other things like these covers.

I don't think you should have buyer's remorse. Just be firm with the dealership that you want them to fix the rattle & that they should provide you with a loaner car while your vehicle is out of commission. It's very common for cars to have rattles.

I agree that Toyota really cuts corners on the Prius. But when you compare its price & design to other hybrids it really becomes evident that Toyota is really just trying to have a high profit margin.

If you can duplicate the rattles with a tech in the car, they are obligated to open the dash and find/fix the noises. I had my dealership do it - the only downside is they needed the car for 3 days as it's major surgery. The early 2010s were loaded with rattles so I'm really surprised to hear about a rattler in a 2014. We thought Toyota had addressed and fixed those issues.
