The rule is that you need the license plate number on the application. I am not saying that noone hasn't gotten lucky and had their application land on the desk of a DMV person who checked with their license plate division and filled in the information. But not filling in the number is taking a chance that the application will get returned to you and you will have to start over. Many dealers in California are set up to pick up the actual plates in a day or two after you buy the car. I purchased my car on a Thursday and picked up the actual plates from the dealer on the next Monday.
Just picked up my green stickers. bought the car exactly two weeks ago and they arrived last week. They are ugly but thats o.k.
Did you get them from your dealer or at home? I bought my car 3 weeks go in CA and haven't yet received license plate or sticker.
When I bought the car. The dealer told me he would call me 2-3 days to give me my plate #. They know this in advance if you finance with them, I think. I use that to apply for my green sticker. This was when they had only 2000 left out of 40,000 stickers. When I came back from vacation. My sticker and plate came in the mail the same time.
How the heck did you get your sticker 2 weeks after you bought your car?! I sent mine in on July 3rd and it finally got processed today.
One of the guy that was not on the 40,000list apply 2 weeks ago. He got his. Did you fill all your field? The important field is the plate number and your VIN. If the dealer say they will do it for you. Don't trust them. I belive DMV doesn't allow dealer to pre-ordered sticker anymore.
I have no idea. I went to the dealer on July 6th to buy my car. They said that they have applied for the Green Stickers and that I would get them. The dealer called me on the 16th and said they were in and I could come get them.
Hah. For that reason, I think they suit the car well. Don't get me wrong, the car has met all my expectations, and I'm still happy to drive it, but adding a little bit of ugly to a lot of ugly is a small cost for single-passenger HOV access. As an aside: 2 things I've noticed recently about the stickers: 1) Most people don't put all the stickers on (usually only the rear, and most often only 1 or two). This seems like a good way to get a ticket for non-compliance when you're cruising along in the HOV lane. 2) I don't think anybody else takes even 1 minute to align the stickers either horizontally or with the body lines. Most that I see look like they were put on by a 4 year old. (peel and slap, in the general vicinity)
I just had the dealership put on mine when they arrived there last year. I wasn't willing to wait until I had free time to attempt to make it level later that week or weekend, since I wanted to use them right away (and I did). They did a good job of putting them level, but I would have not quite done the exact placement they did (they put it a little further away from the side of the car on the rear one, and the front one they put it under the headlight instead of further down the bumper). However I got a free car wash and got to drive away in the carpool lane so I was happy.
Yes, I have seen most of the stickers are put on without thinking... Big stickers where the small one suppose to go and vice versa... Yap, they didn't even bother to see if it was line up or anything... LOL
i sent my application way before i received the actual license plate. it takes about 2-3 days for dmv to assign you a new license plate number. you can have your dealer find out the newly assigned license plate number and apply for green sticker right away. all you need is the license number, not the tag. (disclaimer: i don't know if it's unlawful to apply before receiving the actual plate)
In California, particularly southern California, there are toll roads where carpools get a lower (but not zero) toll than single occupancy vehicles, and the green decals qualify you for the lower toll, which you get by a setting on the FastTrak transponder. That you qualify for the lower rate is still a manual process (inspection by a police officer). And there is no way to know which roads operate under which rules from signs; you just have to know ahead of time that highway nnnn operates under section a.b.c of the vehicle code due to funding from the Foobar Highway Act.
Been seeing lots of Prius Plugin on the carpool lane with the decal. But they don't have license plate. Can't you get a ticket for that? Don't think if you tell the cop that is in the trunk will avoid you a ticket. Unless you show some cleavage. LOL
