Dissecting the Volt

    This guy bought the battery pack, inverter, and transmission from a wrecked 2013 Volt and intends to repurpose it into an EV conversion car. He's just published the first couple of videos on YouTube talking about his project and showing the innards of what he bought.

    He doesn't fully know what he's got since he assumes the wrong battery chemistry and he thinks the transmission is a single-speed series hybrid. He's clearly unaware there is a service manual available.

    That doesn't stop him from dissecting the battery pack with an electric screwdriver. It's a little scary watching him casually pulling apart a 350v battery with his bare hands. About 18 minutes into the battery video some "blood" is spilled but it's just some residual red coolant when he separates the submodules.

    These were just posted 2 days ago and more videos are likely to be uploaded over time.

    I didn't watch the whole video, but the part where I heard him state the chemistry was correct. He said its not LiFePO4, its LiCo, which is Lithium-ion.
    Looks interesting, but I don't like his editing, video takes way too long for what gets shown.

    The Volt is not LiCo. The only production LiCo car I can think of was the Tesla Roadster. The Volt is primarily LMO (aka LiMn2O4)
    with some NMC sprinkled on top.

    Ah, my mistake about LiCo and thinking you meant that he said they were LiFePO4. I guess its kind of worse that he said the wrong specific chemistry than just saying lithium-ion.
