My new apartment is about a block from my work and I often need to leave the office for contracts. So after contract #1 (where I used all my EV charge) and before I leave the office for contract #2, I have parked at my apartment complex and closed the charging cable in the door so I can lock my door.

I've only done this once and left the cable closed in the door for about 2 hours. There was a slight indentation in the cable (probably >1mm) and I have enough slack that I don't have to close the door on the cable in the same place each time.

I know very little about electric cables and wiring… will the cable be sensitive to this type of abuse? (note: I'm not putting any pressure near any of the interchanges between cable and the box, or the two plugs at each end).

    Thanks y'all!

one mm is no concern, it's just the jacket.

Very bad idea. Crimping a power cable can lead to a bad connection or even a fire. There is a small hole in the release button of the charging connector, through which you can put a luggage lock.

I think OP is more worried about the contents of his apartment being stolen than someone making off with the cable...

Has ANYONE had their cable stolen?
    I haven't heard of any.
Adding a luggage lock and locking the plug into the PIP is a must better idea, than closing the car door on the cable.
