After oil change today, I see this blinking red sigh. I can't find this sign in the manual. Toyota is closed today. Anyone has seen it before? Thanks for hint.
Must just be first time you've noticed it; it's on any time the car's shut down, indicating security (of some sort) is engaged. Not a trouble warning
Don't feel like the lone stranger on this one seagull. Quite a few post's here on Prius Chat about the "security system" light blinking. I too am guilty of it. Didn't notice it for over two weeks after we bought the car. The wife was the one who brought it to my attention. She had driven our old Gen II. When she parked it, she thought something was wrong. Questioned me about the light. I went out and looked at it. I told her I don't know what it means, but will find out. I finally read through the owner's manual and figured out what that little light meant. We all make mistakes, as long as we learn from our mistakes/errors it is all good. Take care and have a wonderful day. Ron (dorunron)
Yup, and don't be embarrassed about not finding it in the manual either. Most people can't find things in that manual.
The pdf version's helpful, as you can search for text strings. Toyota doesn't make it available to their customers though, not sure why.
I simply did a google search on "Prius idiot lights" and came up with this link on Toyota's site. It doesn't go into any great description, but then neither does the 2014 online manual. Toyota Car Dashboard Symbols and Icons Guide 2010 online manuals are here. Toyota Online Owners Manuals and Warranty
Sure they do, see my previous post. Trouble is it's split into sections, so you can't just do a single search.
If you download all the parts there are a number of websites which will combine them into a single PDF. Here's an example: Merge PDF - Combine PDF files online for free
Yeah, I know, just hadn't gotten around to it before now. So, I took some time and it took a little planning. Neither the File nor the Page option produced a good document, so I went through the files one by one and renamed them to their page numbers, ie 1-8, 9-20, and so on. Then the File option worked pretty well. I did a Find for 'security' and stepped through each result to find the indicator. Unlike Google though, I couldn't just search for 'idiot lights'. FWIW, the resulting file for the 2014 is 37+ mb.
As noted earlier, this Google search actually brings up a page which includes the security light as its first hit: site:toyota.com "idiot lights" I don't know why I ever bother downloading manuals...
Yeah, don't be embarrassed. It's all good. Gotta learn sometime. When we stop learning, we die. Peace be with you, Ron
I thought I was the only one who thought the car was broken when I saw this light blinking. Wish the warning light icons were a little bigger and more intuitive.
