Hi-- Just got our Prius 2010 III back after being in the garage for 6 weeks for the Software Update. The first install crashed disabling the vehicle and we waited 6 weeks for a new computer to arrive from Japan. The dealer covered the cost of the rental car, so no great loss there (except for the difference in gas costs). So, got the car back and I think there's a behavior change with the Heating/AC system. I compared this with my Highlander and I think I'm right. So, in the Highlander (and I think my Prius was the same), if you hit the Auto Button, the AC will automatically be turned on. Now, you can toggle it off and just blow the vent, but it sort of defeats the idea of dialing up your desire temperature. In my Prius / post update, I can now Toggle the Auto Button on/off and not have the AC function come back on. So, if the AC button is off (which was the default when I left the dealer), you can dial the Auto Button and the temperatures all day long and get no AC unless you press the AC button....at that point, you do get AC. This has got to be a new bug introduced. I'm curious if anyone else is seeing it. Thanks, Doug
Our AC button is independent, hitting Auto doesn't turn it on. Was this way before update, and since. I prefer that way, too: With another vehicle, pre-Prius, I'd have to turn AC off after hitting Auto.
Yes - this is adjustable by the dealer. There may be a manual process too? I actually changed mine myself with an OBDII adapter and the Carista app for android. The default for mine (2010 IV without nav) was that the auto button turned on the AC, requiring the manual press of the AC button to get it off again. I prefer NOT to use AC (auto button doesn't turn on the AC) - so the Carista app helped me out. Was also able to turn change the reverse beep to a single beep when shifting to R.
The only thing I saw on AC was for the Remote Air Conditioning. On page 591. Think this is different? AFAIK, our AC's always stayed as set when Auto button is hit, ie: if it's off it stays off. Strange...: I've even had the 12 volt battery disconnected, no change.
I had to double check and make sure I wasn't forgetting what I used the Carista app for: I just went in there and it allowed me to email all the available customization settings. WOW. This is awesome!!!! Thanks so much for sharing, I had absolutely no idea there was so much granularity in the car's set up. -Doug
I think the app was $10 when I got it but it has since gone to $20. I think the obd adapter I got was about $12. Android only, btw. IPhone users are out of luck as far as I can tell! HTC One M8
I get my 2014-4 Thursday. Are these all things the dealer can/will do? Free? I have Torque Lite, but it sounds like I should check out Carista at some point. EDIT: Sorry, I responded to a post without reading the rest. Please ignore this.
Any dealer "can" do it - it is just a question of whether they will do it for free - it all depends on the dealer. I suspect that if I tried at my dealer I would not have much luck, but I never asked. I love the convenience of being able to pick and choose which ones I change - and if I change my mind later it is easy to change.
My pref is the same, to not have AC go on when pressing Auto. And that's how ours behaves, and we've had since new, and never changed anything. It's a Canadian Touring model fwiw. Maybe due to different country??
Hmmm - seems possible. Is the Canadian Touring model equivalent to a Prius Five in the US? Mine is a Four without nav... I didn't realize this could be adjusted until I found the Carista app (it wasn't mentioned in the manual of "Customization" options).
Touring is like the US V (or 5 now), in as much as it has the 17" wheels, LED headlights w/ washers, upgraded stereo, xm receiver (big whoop), auto rear view mirror with back-up camera and garage door opener (you need a tech support son to get that working), Bluetooth phone (not sure what all models have this) and fog lights (token, almost never use, not very effective). It doesn't have the radar cruise (which would be cool I think) and the rest of the fancy electronics of the the US V. So sort of a stripped down V, actually a good package, to my mind. No sunroof, which I'm not a big fan of, the compromised headroom for one. And when we were standing on the lot, looking at 15" wheels with plastic covers, vs the stand-on-their-own-looks of the 17", that tipped us. I really wish Toyota would quite trying it on with that 15" rim plastic covers, I don't think it's got a lot of fans. And switching the 15" rims to gloss black, like some sort of steelies, is just rubbing in salt.
