It amazes me how many people still don't understand precision and accuracy! It's like they never took a basic junior high science class. My sister grades lab reports of 2nd and 3rd year undergraduate students in organic chemistry and even they don't understand what accuracy and precision is.

Forget it. Not everyone shares the same definitions or knowledge. It doesn't make anyone smarter or dumber than anyone else.

 

Personally I go by the definition in the dictionary. Language would be hard if people could make up their own definitions to words.

 

Even the dictionaries sometimes disagree with each other. A "definition" is simply a meaning someone wants to assign to a word.

 

Off-topic, post's 26 through 29 above are a good example of the new multiple quote in action. Every time you quote you're stuck with another layer. It especially looks like hell on a small screen, like a cell phone.

Uhhh... that is one of the few things that does make someone smarter or dumber than someone else. These definitions are a very basic and fundamental understanding that is required for any science field and should be required for all fields. This is taught in secondary schools and if the concept escapes you, then you are by other definitions dumber than those that can grasp it.

 

With the Prius consistently telling me I'm doing 7~8% better than the reality, I see a pattern, whatever the hell it's called.
