Bisco, I will try to get some pics later; camera batteries dead, and I can't figure out how to transfer the ones I take with my android phone. In the meanwhile, I think you can use the strap between the two forward tie down rings just behind the rear seat, and snug it down closest to the right side. Or, maybe just run the strap through that right side ring by itself. I'm assuming you have the tire lying flat, right?
Hence this is the color that Search and Rescue workers wear, roadside crews wear, Coast Guard helicopters are painted etc. No, oh wait, that is bright orange. Mike
Visibility is the reverse of camouflage. International orange might be ideal for visibility in an urban environment or at sea, but in a forest, desert, a glacier, blue would be more effective.
No just for a Gen 3. I think I bought it from eBay but I don't recall who. It was not difficult to find.
No just as in the photos, drops in, perhaps 1mm slop. Snug fit with a cloth cover on. The base of the compartment is shaped to take it off centre. The tyre is a 125/70-16 Bridgestone, standard space saver spare in the UK.
My concern with this is if you're rear-ended... then instead of having that "open" space, that energy will transfer to the tire and the battery pack is right behind it. That area deforms very easily in a rear ender (as the metal plate behind the bumper is designed to do so)..
You made a very smart move. You will feel very comfortable on your trip knowing you don't have that to worry about.
This what I did: Ordered a donut spare (from 2010 Prius) off eBay, used. Then instead of a tire wrap, used and old, but clean sheet to wrap it up. It fits inside the well. I can chose to carry it around all the tile or just longer trips. Easy to remove, hidden by the luggage cover, and reasonably secure. Total cost: $50.
I got the donut spare (used) off eBay, wrapped it in old, but clean sheet. It fits very snugly and easy to take move about. Total cost: $50. No mess, hidden by the cover and these aren't adding much to the weight of the car.
Found this cheap tire cover on ebay. Stitching is solid, fabric more than decent. Has a handle! Sits behind passenger seat when taking trips out of the area. Absolutely no regrets. Does the job for $4.99 Many sellers. Search Universal Car SUV Tote Spare Tire Tyre Storage Cover Wheel Bag Oxford Cloth
