That is my understanding, two cycles is lock/unlock then lock/unlock again. But the first time I did the procedure I did not hear the door lock cycle at all. It is possible I exited the car too soon (went to get the laptop to browse this thread) and the lock then cycled. The second time I tried it I distinctly got two full cycles - could that indicate the fob was already programmed? Also I don't know if this affected anything but a few days later I found my 12V was down to 11.6V when checked in accessory mode.

Thank you SOOOOOO much for posting this procedure. Bought a used 2007 with only 1 FOB. Picked up 2 online for $100 each and used this post to get them programmed. Awesome to have someone figure something like this out to save $100s.

OK I picked up a new FOB at Camelback Toyota for $110 Incl. tax. Was able to program it within 5 minutes using the Chicken Dance as described in the first post. I never got the "1 cycle" but because I didn't get the two cycles, and waited a long time, I decided to close the dance and try the fob. It worked in all ways so I consider it a success.
Thanks usnavystgc and thank you for your service.

I have only one key fob that was original to the car and it got submerged in water and has lost smart key functionality. It still works to start the car when in the ignition, but that is all. I purchased a used fob on ebay and was able to program it to work in the ignition as well, but am not able to program smart key functionality in the new fob since when I press both buttons on the old fob (as part of the chicken dance procedure), nothing happens. I have tried changing the batteries, but to no avail. My question is is there any way to program another fob to full smart key functionality? I am even willing to go to the dealer at this point. Please help.

    abthomps,
You cannot program a used fob for full functionality as stated in the OP. Since your old fob has lost SKS functionality, you won't be able to do the chicken dance with a new fob unless you can get SKS working. If I were in your shoes, I would carefully take apart the old fob that got wet and see if one of the switches is stuck on. That's likely your problem.

I couldn't get mine to program using the formula until I did a second double press at 9b, then worked. Great!

Be careful of the key part number when ordering. I ordered from a dealer the "smart key for my 06 Prius", but they sent me a 89904-47011. It came without the mechanical key (and for $25 more than what others here have reported for the complete fob). I just ordered a separate uncut mechanical key on ebay for $4.

Maybe cdh is on to something. I'm going to ad this caveat to the instructions and see what people say. :)

Does the key need to be cut for this procedure to work properly?

The mechanical key does not have any effect on the programming of the key fob.

What is the purpose of the mechanical key then?

When your battery dies.....you would need a mechanical key to get in.

Reporting on in Procedure B, step 9b: Press both the Lock and Unlock key (simultaneously) on the NEW fob. Hold for about 1.5 seconds (one use reported it being necessary to execute this step twice, if your first go around does not indicate success, try it again and execute this step twice. Please post what worked in the comments below).

The first time I tried to programming the locks (using your instructions), it did not work. The second time I executed this step twice and it worked!

    I have a:
2008 White Prius (this was a real 2008 made and purchased in 2008, not purchased in 2009)
    Series 3
I have a good key with a low battery that I used to do the programming.
The new key was one I found on eBay, however it was from a Toyota dealer in NM. I communicated with him to verify it was a true SKS.
I will be replacing the battery in the old fob tomorrow!

Thank you for posting correct instructions for my Prius! And thank all of you here for creating and supporting this great forum.

I own a 2006 Prius with SKS. You mentioned your Part Number for your SKS fob was 89901-47011.

I went on the partsfactory.camelbacktoyota website and the FOB Part Number is listed as 89994-47061. Before I order this, am I ordering the wrong SKS FOB??? Can anyone confirm this is the right SKS FOB for my 2006 Prius with SKS? Thanks for your help and can't wait to do the chicken dance.

BTW, I'm a very happy owner of a used 06 Prius w/ SKS with only 53,xxx miles. Hard to believe, but all the documents proved the low miles.

We just replaced our White 01 Prius which we have driven 334,000 miles, with a clean Driftwood Pearl 08 with 140,000 miles.
Clearly an upgrade. It came with one key/fob. SKS So ordered two replacements online as suggested. Did the "chicken dance". Worked the first time with the first fob, the second fob took two or three attempts. Our local Ace Hardware cut the new keys for free.
Happy in north central Alabama. Thank you!

If you are doing more than 1 key, i believe you just repeat step 9b right after the 1st key. 1 after the other, it's already in add mode, no need to do it all over again.

    SM-N900P ?

I read that you could do multiple keys. Wanted my spouse to see the process, so waited to do the second key. They declined.

I knew this was gonna confuse people so the clear it up. The part #89901-47011 is the fob without a mechanical key. The 89994-47061 is with the mechanical key.
