^ Well, and the ability to store the spare, properly, without encroaching on the cargo volume, and secure. In short, like a regular Prius.

Just to throw something out: maybe a spare could be underslung, like a truck spare. Not ideal, but better than nothing.

i don't mind keeping the spare on the rear deck, but i don't normally carry too much stuff. if i stuff four sets of golf clubs back there, it get's a little snug. i would think they could make room for it in the next gen, if there is one.

I think you mean a concealed place to store it, since purchasing a spare and strapping it into the cargo area is no big deal.

It's nice having that option available. Some vehicles aren't as accommodating.

Already having a jack stored under the driver's seat is something to make note of too.

Having to separately purchase a spare, and then cobble some method to accommodate it, is by no means trivial. You've just dropped a fair chunk of cash on a new vehicle, and now you've got to go spare shopping? And plunk it in the hatch area?

The price of a spare is trivial compared to that of the vehicle. Getting one from the parts department is a minor effort.

So, we're back to asking about having a hidden compartment for it.

I have a spare in my PIP, it fits upright at the rear by the hatch.

Upright? You mean in the "tool slot" to the rear of the traction battery compartment? Got any pix?

i'm not saying it's the perfect solution, just that i wanted the car more than i wanted a car with a spare.

Now I'm going to have to try it with my spare donut. Thanks for the idea.

The Australian version of the Leaf has a spare in a drop-down rack underneath the rear end, in the cavity that is covered by the rear diffuser in North America. Countries that require spares get cars with spares...

The navigation in my PIP starts calling out the re-route language as soon as I turn off to make an unplanned stop. This annoys me, and it continues to say "make a u turn" or "turn left" when I don't want to do these things, and it keeps calling out these unwanted moves until I stop the car. In my old car, when I started an unplanned stop, I could hit the "suspend navigation" button, and I wouldn't hear anything. Then, when I was finished with my temporary stop, I could just hit the "resume navigation", and was quickly back on track. In the PIP, I have to press "Options" and "Stop Navigation" to quiet it down. Then, upon starting again, I have to reprogram the navigation again to my original destination. Much more difficult.

I usually hit the mute, until the re-routing starts to make sense again.

I don't know why people worry so much about a flat! When was the last time you had a flat? So many other things can disable your car but do you have a spare for that. Get AA and a repair canister and stop worrying about it.

Actually, it was just a few weeks ago.

It was my girlfriend's car, but the spare was worthless. We hit a pothole in heavy snow. Changing the tire then, late at night in the cold & wet, wasn't realistic. There was also the fact that the pothole shredded the front tire and flattened the rear. No one carries 2 spares.

Last winter, Costco parking lot. Some sort of screw in the tread, one of the snow tires. Went into the store to buy gloves, my hands were just frozen. Put on the spare, drove home, plug repaired, reinflated and back on the car.

No tires were gooped filled, all good.

I'm not going to worry about the lack of a spare unless I need one. My last few vehicles never had a flat while I owned them.

Not including my Dodge Ram, which traveled in some very remote areas. I once got a flat 3 days in a row, but it was the road which was responsible, or someone who had a grudge against passing vehicles.

Pics. I have the tire in a carrier bag. The tire and wheel are the mini spare out of a Corolla I think it is, I paid 40 bucks from the salvage yard.

For what it's worth, I only put the tire in the back when I leave town. And, I have got one flat since purchasing the car. Unfortunately the screw hit the sidewall so I replaced the tire rather than repairing it.
