The gas engine isn't going to cool the PiP's battery while it's plugged in, charging.

Now that sounds like a wonderful Road Trip!
Stop at a KOA in the Middle Of Nowhere Kansas and stay in your car for the night, (or day), with your friends.
Friend, "But we've only been on the road for 3 and a half hours. Why are we stopping? Will we be here long?"

Come on, the Tesla is great as a bigass BEV but who would take one on a summer vacation?

Good for us! We're not arguing about a Theoretical Battery Life and the true cost of driving a PHEV.
Now we are talking about a BEV vs. a PHEV.

    John, usb,
#1 daughter went to ASU. Have you ever felt 112° in the shade? The most the PiP can do is suspend charging due to high battery temp. You better hope that's what it does...
It can spin that little fan all it wants but the interior air is even hotter than outside air.

How many times must we provide detail, addressing the same comments over and over again?

You already knows it has thermal sensors and varies the charging rate accordingly.

Bill, this part of your post is what I refer to as FUD, and it is.
Because the Tesla doesn't work for you is not FUD, nor is your opinion, except when based on bad or misleading information.

However, when you say it consumes power at a decent rate, even when shut down is simply using Fear and Doubt since you don't define what "decent rate" is.
The amount of drain is about that of a 60 Watt bulb left on for 16 hours, for the first couple of days. It then goes into a deeper sleep and uses less.

When you taste it can't be left at an airport for a long time.
    What is "a long time"?

A week? No problem. Three weeks? No problem.
2 months? That may be a problem, but it may not.
Again, you use vague terms ("a long time") to spread doubt and fear.

I'm going on a trip out to Vegas, LA and San Francisco soon.

What you said regarding the Tesla was "You just can't go anywhere at anytime in it."
If you had said "I can't conveniently take it where I want to go" that would have been accurate.
But you again spread Doubt and Uncertainty by telling the reader they can't.

I can take it anywhere I want to go. I am sorry you can't. I know lots of others that can take it anywhere. They want to drive.

I bet you can't drive your car anywhere I can think of. However, you don't need to, you only need it to take you where you want to go, not where I can imagine.

Oops, that would be me, I guess it's a good thing I bought the blizzard white. I purchased that color knowing that cars cook out here during the day. I never gave battery life a thought.

Oh, I totally agree.. its like my friend who bought a Volt, who happens to be married with 3 kids. Thats why he also has an Audi Q7 TDI.. imagine that.. having a second car better suited for a road trip and soccer practice, but using the Volt for his daily commute and local trips. Preposterous!

PiP doesn't need the whole day to charge. It would be done before noon. Timer can be set to start at 2pm also. I think morning right after you get to work is better.

I guarantee Bill is driving people away from this forum for a variety of reasons. He is already making me not want to come on here as much. He is a sad dude that clearly enjoys making himself feel better by trying to put down things he does not agree with.

I'm sorry. I do silly belittling,
This is such a transitional time in history.
With cars and other aspects of society.
Of course every car manufacturer optimizes the hardware they have to work with.
Fire is #1, battery life is #2, and performance/charge times probably comes in 3rd. (making this up)
All of these cars are cutting edge and the owners are pioneers seeking a better future.
There are different needs and we actually have choices!!

Their DC fast charging network is already coast-to-coast. For the route you describe, another leg of the fast charging network will run right through it by the end of the year.

That's a half charge in 20 minutes. I don't know about you, but the bladder, hunger, and need to stretch usually call more often than the range limits of Tesla for multi-state trips.

Who doesn't like free power for life!?!
But keep in mind when you look at the Supercharger maps.
Those shaded radii are One Way free tickets.
You may have to charge at 120V/1.3Kw to get back to a Supercharger.
    The future looks bright!!

Plus hitting those little 18650's with a fast 20 min. charge might have a long term effect. What is that C rate?
But let's not get into that, again....

Yes, but a round-trip is just two one-way trips. The highlighted radii use commonly used corridors for regional and cross-country travel.

In most cases, stopping off the beaten path is an end-destination. That usually means at least an overnight stay. If one uses a supercharger before exiting the supercharging route, he would still expect to arrive at the destination with substantial charge remaining.

Even in the worst-case scenario, Level 1 charging for an overnight top-off will be sufficient to get back to a supercharger on the return trip. And as long as one is not traveling to some back-wood location, there’s a good chance level-2 charging will be available.

The supercharging network is not perfect, but it has and continues to make strong progress as it builds out between coasts.

There is an easy, personal solution. Use the People You Ignore feature under the user menu.
Others may find him helpful, but there is no point in taking the hit yourself if you find him an irritant.

There's a downside to ignoring people though: it makes for some strange discussions, posters inexplicably barking at some invisible entity, lol.

I do recall Bill saying words to the effect: "sold the Prius, got a Volt, I'm outa here". That last bit pretty much word for word. Couldn't stay away I guess.

Then why bring it up, other than to spread Doubt?
The C rate is about 1. Peak at 1.5.
    Lower than Nissan's.
