I have a PiP Advanced, purchased here in Maryland from a dealer. It is the "Advanced" model. I'd like to get emails on charge completion, as I see discussed in the thread. Looking at Charge Management it seems I need a Contract ID. I was at the dealer for a 5K maintenance. Asked about it -- didn't know the name, so described it as 'charge notification through the OnStar like system' and the service rep didn't know. He asked someone, they asked someone else, and at one point I had four guys, one wearing a suit, all making guesses but without knowing what it was. Should the dealer be aware of the Safety Connect ? What sort of cost is associated with it? How can I enroll?
Try calling SafetyConnect at 800-331-4331 . If they aren't the right people, they can tell you who is. Safety Connect is Toyota's version of OnStar. The cell phone built into the Advanced is used for communication. Like OnStar, the car will call a dispatcher in the event of an accident and report your location . You can also press the SOS button to talk to a Safety Connect operator to get a tow truck or other assistance. The same phone is used for the telematics, such as reporting charge status.
Good advice. Option 1 gets me to "to enroll in or renew Safety Connect subscription press 2." Its now ten minutes later, and I've been enrolled -- three free years, starting from the day the dealer sold me the car (so they should have known about it!) Now to configure the email charging notification...
Alas, my dealer is a bit of a dumb blonde when it comes to prius plug-ins: kind and friendly, even generous on prices, but a bit of a ditz when it comes to technical issues. When I was purchasing the car, I'd asked my sales person about setting the backup beep to beep once, and neither he nor his manager had heard of it. I was annoyed that they didn't file the paperwork for me on the HOV tags in Maryland (I sent the forms off myself a few weeks later.) And now I find that they didn't know about the SafetyConnect. Sigh. Letter to the manager, I guess, that they need to pay more attention. I'd still recommend the place, though. You just have to be an aggressive consumer (and read PriusChat.)
Given my AAA service, I really don't have any need for the Safety Connect towing service. But I am attracted to the automatic emergency response feature, which calls in with your location when something bad like airbag deployment happens. I also use the Advanced Entune apps, such as charge management, vehicle locating, and gasoline mileage reports. So I renewed my Safety Connect. YMMV
Might you describe the gas mileage reports? I hadn't noticed that option before. Is it the ECO dashboard?
