Ok. I am putting on 17" oem wheels. Seems like no one was quite sure of the actual weight of them. It is 24.3 lbs. I have had a prius five. Bought a prius four and will be putting on the persona wheels. ( same as five but different color) I will also post the mpg drop after installation. Puttin on michillin primacy mmx4
I bought them from a gent on eBay. He only had three. Had to bite the bullet and buy one made of solid gold from the dealer (460). I like them better than any other option. On my five I was getting 49-50 in town. Thanks! I corrected it. I must have fat fingers or dyslexia!!
The forum has a thread for "wheel weight rescoures" . Lot of information. There have been reports in some posts that switching to 17" wheels and the low profile tires has deminished MPG by aproximatelty 4-6 MPG. The stock Yokahama LRR tires are very light (18 Lbs). The stock rims are perhaps, in the same weight range. I would guess that you will be tugging around an additional 6 LBS per wheel and tire with the 17's. Remember, the electric motor is starting you off from a dead stop. That additional rolling weight is going to suck up the kilowatts. I guess it's a matter of aesthetics over efficiency . Good luck. Haha ... Yes. I could have bought a lot of fuel for that amount!! But I wanted a roof in a Prius and really like the persona oem wheels. So it will bee unique jimmyjam special edition. Expensive. But unique. Thanks. I will be putting this issue to rest. Since I owned a level 5 with oem 17 and michelins and was getting 48-50 in town routinely. I will see what a four with roof and oem 17s will do. I think the wheels may be more areo dynamic than aftermarkets. I have read all the post in the mod forum. Stylin and Profilin comes at a cost. "If you got it, flaunt it." I say. Nothing but nothing is inexpensive about a Toyota Prius.
I have the 17" wheels, and have averaged 48-50 mpg. Has anyone confirmed an actual amount (4-6 mpg) of reduced mileage when compared to the smaller wheels? That seems astoundingly high. I do prefer the look of my wheels enough to live with a small reduction.
I switch our car between the OEM 17" and 195/65R17 snow tires on 15" steel rims. You can feel the extra weight of those 17", when installing them. My wife wanted to put one on, for practice in case she ever needed to deal with a flat, or whatever. She pretty much hit the wall, finally got it on, but just. Do please post mpg results, pre and post switch. Thanks!
Very much so. I do see alot of new Honda/Acura with this tires. The rim protection feature is a plus. Your experience may vary, though.
Went with the new michelin premier a/s 215/45/17 and the 17 inch persona wheel. I will do a tire review In a month or so after I put a 1000 miles on . So far it is a responsive quiet smooth ride. Michilen offers a 30 day drive or exchange. If the mpg is less than the primacy mxm4 they will be going back. I will post mpg as well
Very nice. I originally went with a take off set of Prius 5 wheels on my 2012 Prius Plug In. A used set of used Persona wheels with tires (almost new) were posted here for around $1000. I passed, and later regretted that. I was later able to purchase a take off set of Persona wheels and they're my favorite wheel for the Prius Gen III. Personally, I not concerned with wheel weight or MPG loss, since I drive a Prius. It's the look I'm after.
