I was kind of hoping you guys might read into the cruise control not working and hoping that could somehow play into a repair needed of a minor issue.

The fact that the cruise control is not working indicates that the hybrid vehicle ECU has a major problem. The cruise control is a software feature of the HV ECU.

Well, but it's also got a mechanical switch in the steering wheel and another one at the brake pedal, with associated wiring connections. The problem could be in the ECU but it wouldn't be crazy to check the simple stuff.

The steering wheel switch manages to send several signals over fewer wires, by presenting different resistances for the different switch actions (resistance values are in the manual). The brake switch is a simple double-pole switch; one pole is for the brake lights and the other interrupts cruise.

I understand there are other symptoms too, but the coincidence of more than one problem isn't as rare as it sounds.

If the OP reported that lack of cruise control functionality was his car's only problem then I would agree that the cruise control switch or the brake light switch are suspect.

Since the lack of cruise control functionality appeared at the same time as the other issues which include warning lights on, and traction battery SOC exceeding the normal range from 50% to 75%, it is fair to assert that the cruise control issue is likely only a symptom, and not the cause of those other issues.

Once the other issues are resolved, if the cc still doesn't work then I would agree that the cc switch and brake light switch should be examined.

Thanks Patrick- being in Arkansas is not good for a prius! I'm trying to find a shop who will take this on.

Update: Took it to a shop and replaced throttle position sensor.

Now the codes we have are P0171
    P3006
    P3029- new I believe

All lights still on from original post.
Somehow gas mileage has improved to 46-48 mpg- which I never experienced before.
I heard the battery fan tonight for first time.

    Any suggestions on next steps?

DTC P0171 means that the air/fuel mixture is too lean. Try cleaning the mass air flow sensor.

P3006 and P3029 point to a failed module within the traction battery, so you'll need to replace the battery.

Thanks Patrickā€¦ Let me ask you a question based on the description I've given you so far have a teenage daughter who drives this maybe 25 miles a day. What's the issue with letting her drive this until it stops? Assuming she doesn't go out of town. Can we drive until the battery won't power the car without damaging something else?

I think you'll find that the traction battery will soon get to the point where driveability will be significantly impaired. You won't damage anything else. It is possible that continued use will cause overheating in the traction battery which may be a fire hazard.

In any event, I suggest that you decide pretty quickly how you are going to deal with the traction battery replacement issue.

Yeah, if it were me, I wouldn't keep my daughter driving the car. There will eventually come a point where the engine is racing and the car is not moving or moving very slowly (because the battery has no capacity and the car is trying to charge it). I'm not sure if a younger driver would know how to react to that. Then you have the crazy drivers all around her. Let's face it, you would never forgive yourself if something happened.

Good point regarding the young and inexperienced driver: If you will attempt to operate the Prius while it remains impaired, you should provide your daughter a different car, while you personally drive the Prius.

You also have the option of playing "whack o mole". By that i mean replacing only the modules that need replacing but i am not a big fan of that..you can now buy them at autozone with 3 year warranty and gen 2 modules for around 1800..
