I just purchased my pip last Sunday 3/30. Dealer is "helping" me get the green sticker, whatever that means. Not sure if that's any faster than me mailing in the sticker app to dmv myself. Wish me luck.

    Mailed in application 3/13
    Check cashed 4/2
    Received sticker 4/5
    Sticker #386xx

Edit: My bad guys; took a look at my sticker again today and it was #383xx

Bingo this is just what we needed, and congrats btw!

This was during the dealership mayhem.
Timeline from application mailed in to check being cashed : 3 weeks
Compared to an application mailed in after the dealership being banned.
Timeline from application mailed in to check being cashed : 1 week

Congratulations and thanks for the report! It looks like the stickers are indeed issued out of order because # 39,5xx was issued to a certain dealership in LA (before DMV cut the dealerships off on 3/17).

The new numbers are posted, and the rate has slowed!

As of April 7, 2014, 38,478 "green" stickers have been issued.

Between March 28 and April 7, stickers were issued at the rate of 30 per day, a rate not seen since 2012. At that rate the stickers would last until May 27. (Edit: But probably only the beginning to the middle of May - see my post below.)

But that's a little optimistic. Those 10 days include two weekends, so the actual rate is probably a bit higher. They probably do some work on Saturdays, because DMV told me my transaction date and it was a Saturday. But I doubt they work Sundays.

Still, they're not running out in the next week or two, and everyone who's applied so far looks pretty safe.

Going back to the question of whether numbers of damaged stickers are reused, DMV form REG 1000, the sticker application, says in the replacement decals section that "a new decal number will be assigned."

Thank you for the graph Bill.

Looks like the April deal with $4,000 cash back is shaping up to be the best deal ever.
You get the non-stickered PiP for cheap and still can make the cut for applying for the sticker. :ROFLMAO:

I guess everyone in this thread should make the cut for the stickers judging from the new stats.

Green stickers NOT gone. Still 2000+ left as of 4/7/14. Sorry, I will be blunt. Your posts created a frenzy to get the stickered cars from your dealership.

It occurred to me there is another reason for the slowed rate. In that time period, those buyers who want the green stickers, having read all the premature publicity that the green stickers are gone, probably have all gone to dealerships which have the pre-ordered stickers. They probably paid more to get those stickered cars.

Thanks for checking. Now, that makes me wonder why Dianne said that she received a replacement green decal with the same number.

And there's another factor. Those stickers that dealers loaded up on in early March are on cars moving off the lots right now, and those owners don't have to apply.

As the supply of pre-stickered cars is exhausted, look for the rate to rise slowly, to somewhere between 40 (the rate before the dealer program started) and, at a guess, 60 or higher. That would make Doomsday somewhere between the beginning and the middle of May.

Well, maybe I'm overthinking this. :) OTOH if I were still applying for a sticker, I'd like to know the odds.

I wouldn't blame Dianne for this. I saw a front-page northern California newspaper article with this information.

In SoCal for April, the deal only seems to be 3k cashback from Toyota (vs. 2k in April). Where are we seeing the 4k offer from Toyota (just wanted to confirm)?

Also, working with any government quota system makes me very nervous, I'd sleep much better at night knowing there are stickers already on my car... the 1-3 week wait would be agonizing to me and not worth saving an extra grand or two. Plus that's 1-3 weeks earlier that I can use the carpool lane (my time alone makes that worthwhile). If a buyer does miss the cutoff, then you're stuck with a car w/o HOV stickers... good luck with that and that's a pretty big risk to take on a 30-40k purchase.

It's funny that all the folks that are saying to wait and buy already seem to have their PiP w/ HOV stickers. I don't get it, if someone was planning to buy a PiP, why wait 1-2 months to do it, the deals are already out there, seems to me if you can get one with an HOV, why not?

It depends if you are willing to pay sticker price (with sticker) or if you are looking for a better deal (without sticker).

I think then it's about priority. For some folks, they'd rather get the rebates, tax credits and Toyota Cash back (which is several grand, that's pretty significant) paying close or at sticker price with an HOV.

For others, the priority is saving a bit more money (on top of the other items above) at the risk of not getting a sticker in time.

I'm on hold right now trying to get the status of my app...I had meant to call early this morning but got caught up with a bunch of other stuff...

edit: well, this is lovely...finally got through to someone after about 15 minutes on hold. they have nothing in their system for either my plate number or VIN. said if something like that happens they are probably going to send the app back to me...calling AAA now (their recommendation) to figure out Wth is going on.

edit 2: still on hold with AAA, they're "searching to see if something is wrong with the record, but most of the time it takes 7-10 business days." does this sound normal? if it takes that long, there would have been no point to me overnighting it anyway since it wouldn't have been in the system yet...

 lady at AAA gave me her direct line and said i basically have to wait until friday morning. i'm supposed to call her back then and she will check it for me...either way, if sacramento starts processing it before it ends up in the system, i've basically wasted the $20 to overnight it (they'll just send it back to me since there's no record in their system with my plate number or VIN).

has anyone ever heard of anything like this? i don't understand how it can take 7-10 days for the record to even show up in the system when i have had the plates on the car and registration in the glove box since last monday (3/31).

So looks like you're in the 3 week range too, which seems pretty normal. I don't necessarily think stickers will run out, tomorrow or maybe even this month, but being so close to the end, at this point any car purchased late March or April would keep me up at night until the HOVs are already on there.

crackers, it's a darn shame this has happened. You made an honest effort to do everything you needed to do in order to facilitate the issuing of your stickers, and somebody has managed to screw it up for you. I wish you luck.
