Weird issues after getting the recall update?

My first 36 miles of city driving after the recall...



52.2 MPG... Sorry but I don't notice any difference...

Like I said before the only changes that I see are in this screen, you can see in the picture how the line between the EV and ECO zone are missing, also the ECO icon is off when the car is not moving or in Parking. Before it was always on unless the acceleration reached the PWR zone.

 

How strange seeing a LHD Prius dash. It's all back to front and you have the word 'brake' instead of a symbol.

 

Mine seems to be driving like it was pre update. Fuel economy is the same as well. I guess the ECU just needed to do some learning after being flashed?

 

Good grief, what is all the hubbub about??

 

Go drive on the Interstate above 68 mph for a whole tank and report the mpg's. The car works fine in urban driving both pre & post update. The difference is post update it is a turd when pushed and the fast mph tank averages are in the upper 30's mpg verses 45 mpg pre update. In town it will give 50+ mpg before & after the update.

I notice that on my 2011 Two, the line appears when in gear and goes away in Park.
Honestly, I don't remember if it was this way before the recall.

 

But there other people reporting 54 MPG at 70 MPH in an hour long trip.

I have a handful of 11.3 ⅛ mile time slips...but based on this thread I don't think I'm going to do the recall. I drive the Prius for mileage, I have a Vette for speed, but it sounds to me like the recall reduces electric motor contribution to acceleration and though I seldom floor the car, when I do it's for a reason and I want all the acceleration I can get. It's rare so I doubt I'll hurt my inverter.

I'm thinking these cars didn't get a recall software update -

 

I traded my Corolla that got highway upper 30's for a Prius that gets high 40's / low 50's.. If this is true, then I'm second guessing doing the recall. I have to go in for other maintenance along with this and am almost scared they'll do it if highway mpg drops that low! Mpg is the sole reason I bought the Prius.

I drove about 200 miles today, almost entirely Highway and rarely lower than 72 mph. I still ended up with a 51 mpg average. I don't know how anyone could have a 30 mpg average in a Prius.

 

My low mpg was running above 68 mph. PWR mode gave worse mpg's that ECO mode. I was able to get it up to 41 mpg in ECO mode while running above 68 mph. Just seeing upper 30's on the display gave me a sinking feeling. ECO mode at least brought it to 41 mpg which looked better to the eye's. It really isn't that far from 45 mpg which was a normal running fast mpg figure before updates in other Prius rentals. The only state that this update is mandatory is Kalifornia. The letter says nothing of it being mandatory in any of the other 49 states. There was also no mention of voided warranty's or other scare tactics. As others have stated on the brake software update for the early 2010's, they were not forced to do the update and their warranty wasn't magically voided. I personally do not like drinking the Koolaid. You decide what you want to do

Could be the outside air temp difference from here to there. Me thinks it was the difference

If your drive was in FL, the lack of hills and warmer temperatures more than contribute to better mileage. I came up from Orlando in November and managed a lousy 44 mpg due to strong winds and colder temps.

 

I spent most of February running around down there but I was driving my Soul as my Prius was tucked in bed at home

I usually averaged better rates in highway than city so I can't see how in FL to get high 30s in highway.

Why do you equate "Drinking the Kool Aid" with having the recall done?

Of course people are free to do with their personal property what they want to do.

But Toyota has identified a potential problem with the system. They aren't doing this on a whim. Trust me, if there was a huge possibility of this NOT being a problem, Toyota would not of embarked on a "voluntary" recall. If this recall wasn't important or necessary, my thinking is Toyota wouldn't of opened themselves up to the publicity of having to announce that almost every Gen 3 Prius has what most media outlets are calling a "software glitch".

To me, I have to believe what Toyota is saying about their own vehicles. And there evidently IS a potential scenario that could develop where the system could fail, and put the vehicle and passengers in danger.

So to me? Having the recall done...is the REAL choice. Deciding it's not necessary and imagining it won't ever or couldn't ever be an issue either in personal safety or warranty- is mixing up the self delusional kool aid.
