Protective cap for exposed electrical connections under hood?

It's called an ECU connector cover. As I discovered, there are two types.

The cover can also deter these very expensive and vulnerable wires from being chewed by rodents.

 

I was wondering what your post was about. The pic of the cover itself left me confused. I thought it was for the OBDII connection.

 

It is the connector on the driver's side inside the engine compartment between the air filter housing and the inverter.

 

question is where one can buy the new cover?

The new version has removal tabs shown the photo.

I've circled the removal tabs in RED.

Overpriced piece of plastic, IMO. Should only be a few bucks.

I'd have to agree. If you were to design the cover, fabricate the injection mold for this item, and had one made, it would be around $30,000 plus.

If I had to buy it once, compared to purchasing the wiring harness or repairing the pigtail, which would never be the same as an original one, it is worth it just as a cheap insurance policy.

It's like saying that a $20,000 Rolex watch is worth no more than the commodity value of 8 ounces of brass, industrial diamonds, jewels, or other materials.

 

My question is why should we have to buy a cover in the first place?
Obviously, something is missing. The connector above it is covered.
I noticed this on my 2011 Prius and was surprised to see it was not corrected on the newer models.

It bothers me, but not $35 worth enough to fix it. Maybe their research has determined that leaving it exposed did not create enough problems or cost to be remediated by spending the extra 50 cents in plastic to cover it. But someone made a plastic cover to correct this deficiency, so we are not alone in our concerns. Problems or not, it does look cheap - like when I looked at a $35,000 Chrysler 300 and the trunk had no carpeting.

 

IF it was necessary for that electrical box to be covered, Toyota would have covered it. It's just more bling.

I do think it is a good idea, like the rear bumper cover. But at $35, it is way overpriced. If it were closer to $6 I would consider it.

 

Can't default to that thinking.

I mean, it might not be "necessary" and obviously isn't immediately necessary, but I can't help but think that over the course of years having those wires covered would be a lot better than uncovered.

One sneaky rodent with a penchant for brightly covered wires could instantly make the absence of a cover for those wires a missed commodity.

 

Same logic would conclude that, "If man was meant to fly, God would have equipped him with wings."

Or, GM knew what they were doing, when they designed the ignition switch for the 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt.

 

Its the same logic that some of you use when a person suggests a different oil, filter, or light bulb or anything that is not OEM Toyota in USA. Oh, the irony! (LOL!)

 

The someone you are talking about, is Toyota. They're JDM.

Little pricey, but they look great on...IMO.
