Hi all, I have a Gen III and thinking about PIP. I want to make sure that I can carry the same lumber lengths / ht. etc. that I can in the Gen III. Do the seats have the same range of motion? If you fold the seats down, same volume? Same space in cubbies under the trunk etc.? Do the batteries reduce any of the interior dimensions? The split rear view bar - same projections (for pipe lengths) ? if any different : whats the longest 4" pvc pipe can you fit in a PIP? (from front passenger leg space to hatch.) I am in KS (no PIPs) so I will be buying out of state, dont know anyone locally that I can ask. TIA!
The rear seats do fold down so you can use as cargo area. I transported a 55 inch flat screen TV. ( it just barely made it) with the rear seats folded down. There is no trunk because the lithium ion battery takes up that space. (no room for spare tire either) The tonneau split bar looks the same as my 2010 prius that I no longer own. hope this info. helps.
there are absolutely no interior room difference except the spare tire. all packages or equipment have the same amount form the non pip, i drove the regular Prius for 200,000 miles and now the pip for 22,000 miles and haven't noticed any space difference. you should even know you're in a pip from the interior except the badge on the dash and no spare tire.
There's no rear storage tray, but there is a shallow storage bin under a flip-up panel at the very rear. It has a groove to store the cargo area cover roller, though if you keep that clear there's not much depth below it for other things. I use the bin for jumper cables, toolkit, first-aid kit, emergency LED flare, and a 20-foot #14 extension cord for when the charging cable isn't quite long enough. I can squeeze the charging cable in there if I try, but usually don't.
That rear storage bin under the flip up panel exactly takes a doughnut spare wheel vertically. It is even profiled correctly to the circumference of the tyre.
I run a delivery business out of mine and haul some pretty big boxes sometimes. Also live in the region, so let me know if you have any questions about hauling room and/or the buying process out of state.
Is that true Bisco? Isn't it odd just how many trivial differences there are between the US and EU PiPs. Perhaps Toyota need a few short lessons in cost engineering and the benefits of standardisation. I wonder what the reasons are for these decisions?
i don't know if it's the cubby or the wheel, but my compact spare only goes down to the edge of the hub, leaving 75% of it above water, kind of like the titanic.
It looks the same as US PiP. Ours should get half in there as well. Is it the spare from regular gen3?
I've carried up to six (6) 2x6 8 footers and closed the hatch in my PiP. I used reusable shopping bags to shield the center arm rest and side of passenger front seat. iPad ? HD
For a heady moment there I thought that meant the temporary spare could disappear below the hatch floor.
Went out and tried to fit my doughnut spare wheel vertically in the rear storage compartment- well it fit all the way to the bottom which left about 40% of the tire above the rear deck level. So, no-go for us USA PIP owners.
When I went from Gen3 to my PiP I'd swear the rear trunk space is about 2 inches higher. No proof though.
