Picked up a 2014 package V two days ago and have already put 330 miles on it. Couldn't be happier with the purchase and am excited to get some good tips from seasoned owners. I've been a bit of a performance/luxury automobile fanatic for the past few years, but after our third BMW crapped out on us on highway 128 (in the middle of nowhere in Cali) it was time to do the right thing! After putting my family up in a hotel while getting the typical BMW runaround a day before our anniversary, we pulled our car out of the shop and traded it in on on a 2014 Prius package 5. I'm elated with the purchase decision, and I love challenging myself to get as much MPG as possible with pulse glide. As crazy as it may sound it's every bit as engaging as hugging the corners in a Beemer and I don't feel like I'm missing anything except the insane expense.
Congratulations on your new Prius! I'm with you on feeling that extreme sense of relief when you don't have to worry about extremely high costs when it comes to maintenance & repairs. I was a former Mercedes owner and I ran into the same problems. My previous E-Class would slam into limp mode on me just barely allowing me to crawl home at 30 mph stuck in 2nd. I shelled out $4000 for extensive transmission/differential repairs. After another year of standard $140 oil changes and $280 fuel costs every month, I was hit with another list of repairs needed totaling just over $6000! It's not as if I trashed the car or anything, I babied it. That was the last straw though. I had the shop button up my car to make it driveable and traded it in for my 2008 Prius. I couldn't be happier with my decision and I'm loving my Prius. I was always one of those skeptics, but I've been converted. These are great cars and they drive nice while still providing all the gadgets of a higher line car.
Hey Uni, your story will strike a chord with many guys here, including me! Like you I have gone through Mercs, BMWs and got fed up with forever shelling out money on big repair bills, and high running costs - annual insurance and escalating UK motor taxation based on emissions. Now I get NO emission tax, low insurance, high mpg and a lot of fun with my Prius which is still fairly rare in my area. Good luck and enjoy your car!!
Congrats from another BMW to Prius convert. Now you can learn to scan the MFD instead of the BMW temp sensor. If only the Prius handled like a 318is e30!
