So I spent my Sunday replacing a new wheel hug assembly on my 2005 Prius (288k miles). After everything that could go wrong, did, I finally got the new hub assembly mounted to the assembly bracket. But when I tried to install the bracket on the car, the front drive shaft rod wont thread through the new wheel hub. How tight is this fit? Should I bang wheel hub onto the rod? What's a good way to push the rod through the wheel hub? Assuming I get everything back together, will I need to take the car to have a new front end alignment?
The halfshaft spline should enter the new hub without force. Where did you buy the replacement front axle hub sub-assembly? Was it the OEM part?
Thank you for the reply. I bought it at AutoZone. I was in a hurry and that was the only place I could find at the time.

Does it look like it would fit? It will take a good push but shouldn't take a lot of force. Are you twisting it just a hair to try to get it to pop in? It is a tight fit and it has to be perfectly lined up to go in. I usually get them in by apply constant inward pressure while twisting the shaft and moving it slight up and down. More or less shaking and twisting it in.
No, if it doesn't fit without use of force, that is evidence that you have the wrong part. Yes, camber is affected since you had to remove the steering knuckle axle hub assembly from the bottom of the strut.
Thanks all that responded. Good end to my story. Yes indeed Autozone's part did not fit. I went to a Toyota dealership and paid $180 for a new hub assembly and everything fit perfectly. AZ did take their part back and gave me a full refund.
That's good news. And there goes another customer, AZ. I stopped buying components from Autozone and Advance Auto for the same reason - the parts didn't always fit. I have been buying OEM parts for critical systems either at a stealership or online and haven't had any parts that haven't fit since then.
