300,000 mile club

Please post information about your ownership experience. Some questions to think of...

1) Did you replace the HV battery pack?
2) Did you replace the hybrid transaxle fluid?

Just reached 300k! I am no 2 Fas, but here are my experiences.

Nope
2) Did you replace the hybrid transaxle fluid?
Yes, 90k, 150k, 200k, 250k, 300k
3) Did you replace the brake pads?
No
4) Your lifetime MPG (if available)?
Estimated 46mpg, started strong at 53mpg then slowly dropped to 43mpg from 150k-300k.
5) How often do you change your oil? What brand / product did you use?
My mechanic was using Kendall synthetic 0w20, recently I switched to Mobil1
6) How about post a picture of 300,000 miles on ODO?
Sure, but for some reason I am getting an error.... I'll work on it.

At 260k I replaced the right rear wheel bearing, at 285k I removed the intake and cleaned the EGR tubes and intake manifold. At 290k I replaced the 12 volt with a Optima yellowtop. Everything else has been smooth sailing, I still have the original brake pads, original traction battery.

 

It was the original 12 volt battery. I purchased the vehicle new on the summer of 09, so month wise I am in the 54th month, not quite 5 years, just over 5k a month. I do electrical work on Fleet vehicles and travel to wherever I can book a job.

The oil was changed every 10k.

The EGR tubes in the intake were really clogged. It was not difficult to remove and clean the intake and also made changing the PCV very easy. Another user had posted instructions. I have not experienced the cold start knock so I didn't go the route of a new intake.

 

No, sorry for the confusion. The brakes and traction battery are original. The 12-volt was changed at 290k.

 

2fas4u is impressive, every time I read one of his posts I am shocked how fast he piles up the mileage. I think Toyota should give him a Lexus hybrid and make his life a little easier.

I should add to this thread that I just replaced the intake manifold. At around 4k miles ago I started to get a misfire every time I started the vehicle for about 30 seconds no matter the temperature. My mechanic advised changing the intake, which seems to have cured it, but part of me is skeptical that there isn't an underlying cause that suddenly caused the misfire. I guess I'll find out over the next few weeks.

The dream is over....

At 3245xx miles my prius became too unreliable to drive for work. To be more exact, a misfire which my mechanic assured me would be fixed by a new intake manifold, was caused by coolant leaking into the engine. The problem worsened before a resolution could be found and the mechanic recommended replacing the engine. Since being reliable to my work appointments is very important I was looking for a new car (maybe a better mechanic too).

Just to recap:
3245xx miles. All fluids, filters and plugs changed at Toyota specified maintenance. Transmission fluid changed at 90k and every 50K after initial change. At 260k the passenger rear wheel bearning was replaced and at 285k I replaced the 12volt battery (my own choice, original was fine) and cleaned the intake and EGR tubes.

I was a bit upset when the mechanic called - I was hoping for 500k. After a few days to stew, I have to admit it was a great car. I don't know how many other cars can go 324k with just a wheel bearing being replaced. Yes I changed the intake, but that was because I was a sucker, not because the car needed it. I wish I could have torn down the engine to determine the leak, but I needed to move on.

I shopped around looking for cars that got at least 40mpg highway, looking for slightly larger than the gen iii with an emphasis on reliability. My father kept pressing the TDI jetta wagon. The standard shift is a fun drive. But I leave the priuschat gen iii forum and start again with 65 miles in a v (lowercase v for the Prius v wagon).
