Be careful tapping into the lowbeam wires. Toyota often uses what's called a floating ground system for some of their circuits, the lowbeam or headlight circuit might be one of them. In such a system, the positive or hot wire is always hot and the circuit is switched on and off by connecting or disconnecting the ground side.

You should be careful to test both wires in your lowbeam circuit to determine if they are energized or grounded in both Ignition Off and Ready Mode and wire accordingly. So in your situation, don't just tap the positive side of the lowbeam circuit to trigger your relay harness and ground the other relay terminal, be sure to tap the negative side of the lowbeam circuit for ground. That way, it will work regardless of whether the circuit is floating ground or not.

If you don't want to ruin your oem lowbeam wiring insulation by tapping into them, then you can do what I did when I installed my highbeam DRL module. Buy an H11 short harness and cut the H11 male connector shell off your H11 HID harness. Then splice the wires from the cut off H11 male conector (HID harness) into the short H11 harness wires. You then plug the short harness between your driver's side oem H11 connector and H11 lowbeam bulb:



My image shows two harnesses, but you will only need one. You will also tap into both wires, my pic shows only one wire tapped. Harness on the left has the connector shell off, the one on the right is reassembled.

 

D Unit, actually, you have everything you need already with the HID relay harness pictured. You don't need to get an additional H11 short harness.

You will make your own short H11 harness from parts of the H11 relay harness you already have. Here's what you need to do:

1) Cut off the two H11 female connectors (labelled To Ballast in pic), just cut the red wires, leave the ground wires alone, they will come along with the connector shells. Make sure you leave 2 or 3 inches of red wire on one of the connectors, maybe from the driver's side connector (you might need the full length on the passenger side wire to reach)? You need to remove these connectors anyway to connect the wires from your DRL/turn signals because the DRLs didn't come with H11 connectors.

2) Cut off the H11 male connector (labelled To Stock Headlight Harness in pic). Again, leave about 2 to 3 inches of both wires in the connector when making your cut.

3) Arrange your one H11 female connector with the 2 to 3 inch wires and H11 male connector so that the wires are facing each other. You then splice in the white and black wires previously cut from the H11 male connector (labelled To Stock Headlight Harness in pic) into this harness. So you will be splicing the white/white/red on one side and the black/black/black wires together. Insulate everything appropriately. This harness will then plug in between your oem lowbeam harness/connector on the driver's side and the H11 lowbeam bulb. If you want to solder your splices, then you don't need to cut off the H11 male connector in step 2, just strip off some of the insulation and twist some of the wire in from the female H11 connector (from step 1) and solder/insulate the wires. I advise against using the crimp on type taps that pierce the wire insulation for this type of application because the lowbeams use several amps of current.

When you wire your DRLs you connect the red wires from the relay harness to the positive wire on your DRL, you will need to ground the appropriate DRL ground wire/lead to the frame.

I don't think you will get any errors if you unplug the OEM parking light connectors. Just try, but insulate the connector from the elements and any short circuits. Also, leave the bulbs in to keep the headlight housing sealed.

I'm in the market to do one of these conversions. I have a blue ribbon 2010 Prius IV. Would you recommend starting off sourcing an intact front clip from junkyards, or did you go with new dealer parts off the bat? If you don't mind, what was your itemized $-list (sticking w/ OEM everything)? How much does including the fog lights (and supporting parts) add to the build $?

I have ordered all parts, will be here this week and i will try the install this weekend. You didnt mention the relay or harness for DRL in part list, does it just plugs right into 2010 harness? What i ordered is 2012 turn signal with LED DRL, what would i need in order to plug it in? Sorry if i asked dumb question.

 

U will need to slightly modify the tabs on ur existing turn signal socket to fit the 2012+ housing.

As for the DRLs, u will need to wire those in since the 2010-2011 didn't have DRLs.
