I have a 2001 Prius with 204K miles. On cold mornings when I start the car first time, within a minute it shuts down with red triangle flashing. After resetting it, car works fine all day without any problem. Not sure what is going on. Any help. thanks.
1) Does this only happen on cold mornings? 2) Have you checked the voltage of the 12V battery both sitting (no pwr) and IG On (engine not running) 3) When you reset it, does the triangle go away? 4) Are there any other lights? 5) Do you have a Prius aware code reader?
Interesting a dirty throttle would shut down the car and trigger the red triangle. It must have been really dirty with carbon deposits?
The dirty throttle body/throttle plate issue is particularly significant with Classic; less so with 2G. That will cause DTC P3191 (engine no-start).
1) Yes only noticed on cold mornings. 2) I will check the voltage later. 3) Yes triangle goes away after resetting it. Car runs fine with no problem until next morning. 4) No other lights on. 5) No don't have Prius code reader. I did go to Autozone and they hooked up the computer. I got the codes.
Yesterday morning car started fine and no red triangle. I checked the display and it showed outside temp 36.
