I currently have a ScanGauge and am looking for a way to track more data. I know from researching Torque that it will store data which can then be analyzed in Excel. The issue is that all our devices run iOS, not Android. I have been researching EngineLink and haven't found a definitive answer or whether or not this app can save the history of the data as your drive to then export to Excel. I see that the "small/large plot" type of gauge on the blank pages seems to show history, but I haven't been able to find out how to export that history out of the app.
EngineLink can't but DashCommand can. DashCommand Although the last time I used it it didn't work very well with the Prius advanced PIDs.
I agree with Jghake, EngineLink can't export data. The closest you could get would be taking screenshots of the data as it was displayed and reviewing it later.
Sounds like that would do it, there is an active torque thread on the site. With the custom PID list I've found engine link gives me a lot of information. I can compare all the cell voltages at various states, temperature of components, etc. But I've never needed to chart anything or export the data. Hopefully torque has all the features you need. If you end up with both I'd be curious if any discrepancies between the two show up.
So, Enginelink can't export data, but I do think it stores much of what it is displaying. In itunes you can see the log file and download it to your computer. I've opened the file and it seems to capture a record of the commands and responses between the wifi adapter and the application. What would be needed is an application (or Excel macro, or Matlab script,...) to digest the log files and create something that was more generally user friendly. I indicated in my review of the app that if this ability was created within the app I'd pay more $ for it. Alternatively, someone could do the work and post a solution. I might consider this but I don't see having the time to do so until the summer time frame at the earliest. One shortcoming I see is that as far as I can tell Enginelink only "acts" upon the displayed gauges, plots, etc. So at best, this is one page full of data that would be collected.
The obddata.log file captures the native ELM327 requests and responses between Engine Link and the different ECU's. If you open with Notepad++ it will space it correctly and group the requests and responses. If you understand ELM327 protocols and Hex data there is a lot of helpful information for troubleshooting. Vincent1449 is the site master for this. If someone could translate this to plain English and decimal format that would be most helpful. In the meantime there is an ELM327 document if you are interested.
I read another thread where the OP was troubleshooting a DTC that was pointing to either the CAT, the Air Fuel Ratio sensor or the O2 sensor. He was monitoring the AFS voltage and the O2 sensor voltage. We have the AFSV B1S1 PID for the AFS voltage in Vincent's ZVW30 file but not the O2 sensor voltage. Vincent told me that this value was in the Standard PID 0115. I tried this PID from the Standard US file in the app and was able to read the O2 sensor voltage. Looking at the obddata.log file I noticed that the value for 0115 was the same as PID 2104 and the K value. So I created the PID below to verify and this PID is the same as the standard PID 0115: 2104,O2 Sensor Voltage B1S2,0,1.275,V,K/200,7E0 The 2104 PID contains the values for the AFS target and actual lambda and the AFS voltage. Now you can add the PID above for the O2 Sensor voltage and compare the AFS and O2 sensor voltages.
This is some more information that may be useful for other Engine Link users. I use EL with iPad which with the larger screen I can place a lot of data on a Custom Graphic page. Besides the Standard Engine Performance page I have created three additional Custom Graphic pages. I have found out that you can have data points from multiple PID.csv files on the same Custom Graphic page. Only the page that you have open for display is updated at any given time and the individual data point PID's are attached to the data points on the graphic page. So it does not matter which PID.csv file the data point originates from, the PID data request is generated from within the Graphic Page. For example, I have a Custom Graphic page where most of the data originates from Vincent's ZVW30 Custom PID file but a few of the data points originate from the Standard PID_US file that comes with the EL app. All of the data points, regardless of the origination file, update correctly.
I've started using Engine Link and love it. However, I'd like to get more information on the various Gen III data streams, particularly a translator from the very brief labels to what they mean and where the measurements are being made. For example, what does "iat" mean? There's "Inv1t" and "Inv2t" which are probably inverter temperatures, but where are they being measured? What do "BC U" and "BC L" mean? "O/V I/P Cnv"? "V01" thru "V14"? "R1" thru "R14"?
Try this spreadsheet from vincent1449p. These are in Torque format but can be converted to Engine Link by re-arranging the column data. The first Name column gives the descriptions that you are looking for.
More new features were added in EngineLink version3.8: Save and load your custom layout. You can easily share your cool interface with others. Added support for Bluetooth Low Energy OBD-II adapter. It is Auto configure, auto connect.
I just got Engine Link and all seems to work fine except that I get a message when it starts that says it won't read my fuel gauge. Not sure what's up with that. I have an e-mail in to Engine Link. Just tooling around the block Engine Link said I got 41.26 mpg. The Prius said 48.6. Odd difference.
The Prius does not use the Standard PID for fuel level. Engine Link uses the standard fuel PID in their code to display the fuel gauge. I have given them the Gen 3 fuel level PID but to date they have not modified their standard displays to include the Prius fuel level. Try resetting the EL mpg and try again. This is rolling average and has to be manually reset. It is fairly accurate with my car. Also if you are using E10 check that radio button.
I'm new to this so I'm not sure what you mean by resetting the "EL mpg". I'm using the PD for Prius_Gen3_US.csv, as well as the standard set. Somehow I managed to add a small dial that reads "Fuel Level" but I'll be darned if I can find where that came from. Seems pretty accurate as to what I have left for gas, but would like to have the fuel gauge working on main colored screen.
Engine Link has a mpg trend display. There is an icon with the letter i inside a circle. Select this and a menu will pop up where you can reset the mpg calculation. If you are using gas with ethanol select E10 at the top. If you will touch the screen where the small dial is a menu will pop up. Once you select the display that you want then another menu will pop up and give you 2 or 3 pages of parameters to choose from and display.
Yeah, I did that. I figured that part out. I was just disappointed that after buying it the fuel gauge doesn't work on the main page. Not so much the money, it was only $7 for the iPad version, but it would have been nice to know at first. Hopefully they'll offer an update. I can't imagine with all the other sophisticated stats available that a simple fuel gauge reading cannot be offered.
