Changed battery and dropped socket? Dangerous?

    I was changing my 12v and was putting the negative lead back and the alarm sounded. It scared me a little and I dropped the socket but the bolt was secure. Is it safe to leave the small socket in their? It fell in the battery tray on the very bottom.

    There shouldn't be any danger but why don't you just remove the battery and take it out? It's just a 10mm socket.

    It seems like too much work took me forever to take the battery out and it was hot outside. Anyway thanks for letting me know.

    there are no moving parts there, it's safe.

    Could bounce around and make noise on occassion.

    I would obsess over it being there, even if I never heard it....:rolleyes:

    This is why it is helpful to have a collapsible wand with a magnetic tip. If you are lucky, you will be able to pick up the socket with such a tool, without having to go to the trouble of removing the battery a second time.

    Should you go to the effort of removing the battery a second time, you will benefit from a learning curve and this may encourage you to be more careful as you are working in that area...

    However if you decide to leave the socket in there, it is not the end of the world.

    Agree on both points. Bought the wand before replacing my 12V a couple of weeks ago. Don's instructions had me gunshy about losing the vent tunnel bolt (http://priuschat.com/attachments/gen-ii-12-volt-battery-change-pdf.61223/).
