Does the Pip have electric heat? Sorry, I could look this up, but...

Hey, I pulled up next to a '14 Leaf yesterday. Both of us first in our lanes. Light changed, I matched his acceleration until 4sec. in I thought, "This is happening" and floored it. We were neck to neck up to ~45mph when my right lane was ending and I backed off. WTH! Is a Leaf as fast as a Volt?

PiP can't race EV. Is that true?

PiP has electric heat only from the seats. Cabin air heat will use gas. Use it wisely.

PiP is plugin hybrid designed to take advantage of both fuels.

Probably safe to assume that your typical PiP owner didn't buy it with drag racing in mind - except maybe with another PiP!:ROFLMAO:

The Leaf driver was probably not flooring it. There are few vehicles that can keep up with a Leaf up to 30MPH, and I kind of doubt that a PIP is one of them. No electric heat, BTW. The prototypes had heat pumps like the new Leafs, but not the production models.

Remember, folks, when you get that survey from Toyota, asking about the car, ask for electric heat in future versions.

My housemate got a survey - two, actually, over email. It isn't standard, then?

:)Since I'm now a Prius guy, I prefer FAR versus FAST.

I have gotten a couple and am now taking another more extensive one that I'm actually getting paid pretty decently for.

Yes, it was unsolicited from Jd Power on behalf of a large automaker. You had to respond to a questionnaire and they chose a certain number of respondents based on that feedback.

Sure the PiP can race.. just not the fastest in 0-60, but there are many dimensions in a race.

I think you have that backwards.. Volt 0-60 is 8.9 Leaf is "Acceleration run from 0-62 miles per hour: 11.9* seconds", though many people have pushed it and times under ten seconds can be found (e.g.
2014 Nissan Leaf | car review @ Top Speed has the leaf at at 9.7 and
2014 Chevrolet Volt | car review @ Top Speed is at 8.7 seconds, so the they have the volt faster in 0-60 by the full second.

For the PiP Top Speed has it at 10.7, so a second behind the leaf
2013 Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid | car review @ Top Speed

A Model S.. is way faster than any of them in 0-60..

And of course the volt, as an EREV, goes far too ;-)

The only "EV" race a Model S will use is a very long distance one where a PiP or a Volt will have the advantage in refueling time.

Interesting... zeroto60times.com reports it as 7.9 seconds, and the Volt as 8.9.

I didn't, other than filling out the other surveys I was sent. I was then approached by mail, IIRC.

The immediate torque and power of acceleration for the EV cars can't be compared with an ICE car. Come race me in my EV. I blow M3's and Porsche and other cars off the line all the time. They don't expect my seemingly unobtrusive Rav4 to burn rubber or fly out of their line of sight.

Most electric cars have immediate, instant power vs. an ICE car that has to get there.
