    Hi all,

I'm new to the Prius world and hoping to make a purchase within the next couple weeks. I'm leaning towards a plug in over the Prius II, but it's been a lot more difficult to find recent price comparisons on the plug ins.

I can get a new 2014 PIP for $28800 through the Costco buying program. Then a $2000 factory rebate would be added to that, taking it to $26800. This includes the destination fee. TTR plus DMV fees are somewhere around $2800 or so, making my out the door cost around $29,600 (or a little more with $80 doc fee, etc).

The tax credits ($2500 fed and $1500 CA state=$4000) would then decrease everything by $4k, so I'd basically get a final price for the car around $25,800.

Is this a good deal? A great deal? Should I continue trying to email dealers to see what further discounts I can get, or is this close to as best as I can probably do?

Any thoughts or opinions would be most appreciated! I don't really know what I'm doing, but I'm determined to get the best deal I possibly can.

Try this Lady. She is very well respected here and does all the rebate, Toll Tag and other stuff for you in addition to having probably the best pricing.

:)I agree. MOST knowledgable, BEST prices, BEST selection. Optional EXTRAS most dealers don't offer. She's also a Plug In owner. Doesn't get any better at one location.

Believe that would be among the best deals we have ever seen in California, but some provisos:
    • we have not heard from too many others how the Costco deals works (I wonder if you can take the factory rebate in addition to Costco deal)
    • Not sure if somehow 2014's are costing less to buyers than 2012/2013 models
As Dianne Whitmire points out, key advantage of PiP is CA HOV access, and it sounds like that incentive is possibly in its last months.

But if you are in the market for a Prius...why would you not pay just a little bit more and get a PiP?

Great deal and better than any dealer's ad we've seen. Get it.

...that's what I too was saying...especially if you read Dianne Whitmire's post it sounds like Dianne is saying CA HOV access for PiP is not assured for the whole year. I was also saying the PiP price quoted above I think the lowest I ever heard for CA so far if it is correct.

PiP access to HOV lanes via green stickers has been extended to January1, 2019. I think what Dianne was referencing was the limited number of stickers to be issued- 40,000, of which 24,000+ are already gone.

...sort of like VA, we gave out all our best HOV plates thru July 2011, now you cannot get one unless you already have one. We do have a new HOV plate but its not as good.

...and actually, 30,000 stickers are already assigned out of the 40,000 allotted to plugin hybrids.

    That's a good deal.
I'm not seeing $2000 rebates here in Tropical Western NY, is that only on the west coast?

At least when you come here to see me (or one of my peeps that work with me, Jane, Larry, Gloria) you get a no hassle no BS experience and we handle everything for you. I am now sending out the HOV stickers within a few days of purchase. Helping with the incentives and really, really treating folks with decent care and concern for the variety of learning curves we are faced with on this car.
My cars have mats and at times, other incidentals as well. I try to grab the car in the color you want that's most likely to have a HOV sticker on hand here in the file... and, no one throws your keys at you, even at 11pm when we're here late. We don't try to get anyone to pay more or mess around and move your goalposts when you get here. SO many others do, it's a shame. Getting a new car should be exciting and YES, it can be stressful and creating anxiety, but that won't come from me.
I have 241 total Prius models in our inventory and 94 of those are PlugIns... here, incoming from PORT and floating here from Japan. This car is a huge commitment for us. We take it, and our clients seriously.
One can take their chances elsewhere. One can hope their HOV stickers are there (most stores do not pre-order these) and try to figure out how to get their 1500 from the state... but you can also sit back and permit us to help do all of this the right way.
I don't beg for a good CSI rating or survey. We earn it.

Dianne, you are up to date obviously, and I was reading an outdated item when I searched the other day in a hurry. As of 1/13 there were something like 28,739 already gone. Sorry for the misinformation. (Of course, I did put a "+" there at the end). :p

Advertized prices around $27,000 before tax and license in the SF Bay Area this past week. Makes me almost want to trade in the 2008.
