I see some people here on the other forums (Prius v/c/GenIII) have upgraded their horns.

Has anybody here upgraded their "meep meep" horn on their Gen 2 to a more American car sounding one?

I'll vote for a awooga horn. I like your description, when I read it I thought about the roadrunner and Wiley coyote.

I just went out to the Prius and removed the black plastic cover that is fastened over the grille and radiator area, under the hood. The horns are very easy to access!! Score! (y)

So I waltzed (actually I typed) right over to amazon.com, and bought FIAMM 72112 & FIAMM 72102 horns.

Cant wait to get them Tuesday and install them!

Quite a few here have these and like them - they sound like a real horn.

I think the Gen II has a very commanding horn...much less "meep meep" than my 1985 Truck.

On the lesser expensive side, I just replaced the factory horns with a $10 set from Harbor Freight. I also did this on my Toyota Echo. They work great and sound like a real car!

Cool! Let us know how the install goes. I was interested after reading that other thread as well.

They will arrive tomorrow, according to amazon's tracking. Im so excited!! :D

I have a habit of honking at other Pri in the area (a friendly meep meep) but with the new, more aggressive sounding horns, Im going to have to start waving and smiling instead or they might think Im mad at them..lol

    ...update to come!

Mine were very easy. No additional relay was needed. Merely add a ground wire for each horn.

So from what Ive read, the horns have 2 terminals, right? +pos and a ground? I run a spade connector & little piece of wire from the horn ground to the horn mount, and the +pos wire from the car to the horn with a spade connector? Sounds simple enough....

yep, you got it right. I did use some aggressive sandpaper where the bracket is bolted to the car. I sanded both the bracket and it's mating surface to ensure a proper ground. That might be a bit of overkill, but that way, I know for sure.

Ha. Yeah probably but hey, if it helps you sleep better at night, no judgments made here :D

Im pretty stoked. Between my newly installed heated seats and the new horns, Im going to be finding excuses to go out and drive the Prius, lol

    Stoked? Nah. Addicted? YEAH :)

I always enjoy driving the Prius, but what I really like is when I put fuel in it. Even with poor 40 something in the winter, it is still better than 17 like I used to get.

    AWOOGA (sound effects) :D

    Ha! Victory is mine

Got the High & low note Fiamm's installed earlier. I had to loosen the front grill by removing the fasteners, just enough to get my hands in there. Bonus: The pre-existing connectors to the horn that Toyota uses work perfectly with the Fiamms! (y)

Heres a before and after sound clip:

Before: FileSnack | Easy file sharing

After: FileSnack | Easy file sharing

VERY happy with this easy mod. Its pretty straightforward, but if you have any questions, I can answer them for ya!

Cant wait to use it....lol. Seems like before when I had to honk, nobody would take me seriously. Who knows if they will now but we'll see!

My horns were broken/missing when I bought my wrecked Prius. I did the Harbor Freight horns and they are way better than the stock ones. Quick and easy mod.
