eBay emails me 10% discount codes from time to time. They are good for any item on ebay but can only be used once.

I think the battery you are going to fit is the type of batteries I am using in the UK. See fitting instructions in the post below. These are extremely robust long life batteries with a much greater capacity than the OEM or Optima batteries, and stand up very well to deep discharge being a requirement in there normal use.

Optima now has one with the correct post size, a drop in install. I was one who sent them an email about the fit. I can't believe some of the dealers who hose you on the install. A couple of screws for the cover and two post installs?

Amazon has been regularly selling this optima battery for $147.xx for the past few weeks. They come in and out of stock throughout the day. And yes the part you have is correct. Optima (8171-767) DS46B24R Yellow Top Prius Battery

The dealers price of $385 is very high, $200+ on labor alone. It's not a very difficult task, just need simple tools to do it, takes about 20 minutes.

You want the DS46B24R size since that has the proper terminals.

So it turns out that the guy at E Learn Aid is in Los Angeles and offered to install the battery for free. Battery was $173 + tax. Comes with a 3 year warranty. I gave him a few extra bucks for good karma. So far so good. Battery showed 12.1 even with load. The guy is a bit of an absent minded professor type but knew what he was doing. Attached a battery so I did not lose radio, odometer and other settings. 30 minutes later I was on my way.

If I don;t post back here it will be because everything is going good.

You got a new battery correct? A fully charged battery should be 12.9 volts.

I bought a new Exide battery (aftermarket but Prius direct fit) for €75 / us$100 and fitted it myself. Longest time ever for me to fit a battery, but saved me a nice few €s!

We seem to have a much bigger choice of batteries this side of the pond, but I know the Exide is available in the US. It is an excellent product at a very good price.
Few people seem know this but they also do a spiral wound battery along the same lines as the Optima. The downside to the spiral battery is it's poor use of "or should I say wasted space between cells" space giving it reduced capacity for the same footprint. This in the case of the Prius battery is a loss of 7 AH in capacity.

Very true re choice here. I could have bought an even cheaper "no name" battery, again Prius size for about €55! I prefer to stick with brands that are known and trusted fir the sake of a few extra euro. The Exide also has a greater AH than the standard Toyota battery (can't remember exactly though)

The capacity of the OEM battery is not marked on the battery. In the US two sizes are fitted depending on the entry system of the car.
The small battery is 35 AH the larger one is the same as the UK/EU battery and is either 40 or 45 AH no hard data to go on.
The Exide along with most other Prius fit batteries this side of the pond is 45 AH.
I use a mobility battery rated at 62 AH over 50% higher capacity than the OEM. The down side to this is a few pounds of extra weight, but the upside is it's large reserves in capacity, and not having to be concerned about use of accessories, and mobility lift fitted in the rear.

I just got a new(?) battery Optima from Specializing in: dictionaries including the Collins Cobuild, Oxford English Dictionary (OED), Webster's & Random House. auto parts, study skills and life improvement and I did the test above listed by dorunron here Prius startup issues | PriusChat

and these are the scores I got:

    Accessory 12.2
    Ignition On 12 then 11.9 then 12
    Ready 14

I did this 1st thing in the morning after car sat all night in 50 degree weather. Also when I tried to enter Accessory mode the radio came on - is that right? or did I enter an incorrect mode?

If this is right is it a bad battery?

FYI I am also posting to another thread -
