Your unpainted black bumper highlights one of my frustrations about todays "bumpers". Bumpers used to be reasonably functional, structurally sound, with a black rubber wear strip that could take some abuse and not show it to speak of. Nowadays they're "glass jaws", essentially fairings, barely able to hold their shape. And the slightest impact takes the lovely paint off, revealing the black plastic under. Hit a little harder they concave and the paint is pretty much totalled.
Come On. You cracked your bumper. When I see a headline such as " I wrecked my c! " . I expect a story filled with burning rubber, twisted metal, shattered lives and at least pictures of a mangled totaled Prius c. Truth in Advertising. You "slightly damaged" your c. Glad you're okay...and the vehicle is okay.
Great price, for a lucky car. I cannot remember another case of the final price being less than the estimate.
Yes looks great. Like I said before I know the shop personally. I didn't bother with any insurance. They took care of me.
Would you share the circumstances of your losing control? 1. approx speed 2. any contributions to off-course excursion? snow, rain, worn tires. etc 3. what you did to maintain or regain control? Thanks. st curious. And I hope damage is not serious.
Speed was about 25-30 I was on a back road all covered in snow, sleet and even ice. I was able to turn the car around very easily after I "wrecked" I did not have any snow tires on the car which I believe played a big role.
Ahem, you voted for the troops that require collisions to be controlled decelerations. Those steel/chrome bumpers won't do that and transfer the deceleration right through to your body - and head. Decelerations more than 20g are 50% likely to kill or paralyse you. Is that worth the bumper being a different kind of 'functional' Those plastic covers are just to cover up a sandwich or honetcombed bumper complex. You woyuldn't eant to see that structure anyway, it is ugly. And unless pounded do hold their shape well.
Lack of adhesion is definitely the cause; that means little in the way of managing the control is likely at any speed greater than a crawl. Be thankful you didn't intercept oncoming traffic. Now the question is whether the purchase and mounting snow tires is less than the $600 you spent repairing the bumper with friends help.
