Who at Toyota thought that a back up camera was a better idea than back up sensors? This does me no good. I never really used it but just knowing that I can't instead of I choose not upsets me. [IMG]

Mine works great, it looks like the lens on yours has been damaged. I use it all the time.

Those are not water stains, they are actual water droplets on the camera lens. Just wipe them off.

those water droplets are on my lens too but they either get blown off from driving or just dry up. I wouldn't go as far as to bash a car company for having them standard now on the Prius models (at least in canada, they are standard even on the base models)

OK... Say I'm parked face in a parking space after after driving in the rain, when I go to back out droplets on my lens is not what I want to see. Somebody should have caught this during the design phase. I'm not dependent on it, but if I want to use it, it should be available rain or sun...

Make sure the protective film on the lense was removed at the dealer.

Really? You are going to complain about water on the camera lens?

Almost all our vehicles have a backup camera and it is just normal practice to walk past the hatch and rub the lens once. Gets the dirt, stains, and water off.

And the picture you show is perfectly usable. You can see the other cars in the background that are parked, you can see the entire field of vision.

I'll agree with the OP- having just a camera isn't really too helpful.
That being said- having sensors and a camera would have been awesome!

The camera is awesome, and I now miss it in cars that don't have them. A couple water drops - oh no, it's the end of the world... really? Might have to, gasp, use the mirrors...

eh, I agree. since the snow started falling mine has been basically useless, constantly covered with road grime. I suspect a more protected location could have been found.

Where I travel, winter road grime coats the entire rear of the car. The more protected places I can think of, will not provide the required rear view. So the backup cam lens needs to be cleaned regularly, just like the windows.

Front and rear windows are either protected by aerodynamics (sedans) or they are fitted with a washer. The camera was slapped on the Prius with no regard for either. As a result, it is uselessly covered after just a few miles on winter roads, just as our windows would be if you had no means to wash them on the move.

A solution could have been found.
