True story: The speed limit on a four to six lane, divided city thoroughfare where I live is 40 mph. Traffic was light the other evening, and being in no hurry, I stayed to the right lane at 32-35 mph, timing the signals. I was able to make several lights just as they changed to green, with nobody in my lane. I was passed by the same Mercedes at least three times- he would gun it away from the light, race to the next one in time to catch it on red, sit and wait for me to cruise by in the next lane as it turned green. This went on for at least a couple of miles. The guy is obviously a slow learner, and probably cusses out Prius drivers for being slow! Of course, I was in EV mode the whole time, while he was sucking up the gasoline.

I love it when this happens. You would think it would show a lot of people that going faster doesn't necessarily mean you will get there sooner. But of course the vast majority of people don't think of energy use like this. But they do love to complain when gas prices go up.

Also goes to show that the traffic signals are not necessarily timed to the speed limit, but I see that fact posted on streets only rarely.

Thankfully, the enablers are now getting attention. It's doesn't take too many slowing down (respecting the limit) for others to begin following suit. Just look at how other trends changed over time.

Len - did you ignore the "Replace 50% of your Tank every 6 months Rule" ?

what are your stats ? MPG and all - seems like you'd be off the charts !

After I reboot I consistently get 13.9. Miles estimated. I reboot when it gets down to 12. The only graph on the MFD I concern myself with is the monthly, they have been maxed out for three months. This is my play car, I am retired. So, everybody can't do this.

I know your display says 13.9 but what is your actual EV mileage that you get?

The worst EV range I ever experienced was 9.3, freezing cold... it was about 17 degrees according to the car gauge. I use the seat heaters and was in warm clothes, tried to keep the heater off as much as possible.
Best range? Nearly 20 miles! Long traffic jams are NOT your friend when you're in a rush, but definitely your best friend considering braking and coasting plug charge back in ... and doing it for quite a few miles off and on during a 44 mile commute sure helps!

Your mileage can surely vary depending on your driving. I use the gauge for EV range as a ruler by which to try and extend with better behavior... as long as I am NOT in a rush.

It doesn't matter. He resets, he sees 13.9 and he is happy.

(Humor him...we all know reseting just changes the estimate and not the actual miles you can go.)

    That made me LOL.

I go thru this all the time with EVs and even in my own Rav4 EV. One week, range says 117, I manage to go 145. Next week, range says 117, and I am running the heater (or AC for a week) and doing 75-80 and I go 95 miles tops and watching the range meter drop like a 1-ton weight on Wile E Coyote's head!!
Then the next week I get into the car, range says 95 and I am gritting my teeth!!

. In order to find that out, I would have to use all or most of my estimated. I can tell you that my actual always exceeds my estimated. In Summer I have gotten 20. But I no longer drive this as a normal vehicle and only attempt to continue in EV, most people cannot do this and I understand.

You can boost your EV mile estimate without disconnecting the 12v battery. You just have to know when to switch between HV and EV mode.
