My in laws would like to buy me a toy to use with the prius, my bother in law recomends a scan gauge 2. Any input? I would rather update sway bar for the same price (Rav sway bar kit $134)
I got ScanGauge maybe 2 years back. There are lot of gauges that can be displayed, it can show 4 at a time. It has the ability to calculate your miles to empty, and mpg, tank-by-tank, but I gave up on that, pretty much from the outset. My use of it is very simple, this is what I've settled on: RPM <mainly so I know definitely if the engine's on or off. Coolant Temp <useful to know what "stage" of warm-up you're at, what your block heater has accomplished, if you're grill block is not excessive, and so on. MPG since last start-up <lets you know how you're doing, for the current trip Instant MPG <same info as the bar graph in dash, but much more detailed All in all, I pay attention to it pretty much every time I'm behind the wheel, even with the limited use I've settled on. I just adhered it to the dash, directly behind the steering wheel, with a couple of loops of masking tape on the base. It comes with Velcro strips you can adhesive-on to dash and base, but I was reluctant, thought it might leave marks. My setup was supposed to be temporary, but it's worked out fine. (I guess grill block and block heating are not big in Texas...)

$150 to 160 is about as low as they usually go. Autozone and another store (might have been Advanced Auto) had coupon codes a couple months ago that took so much off your whole order, that's the cheapest I've ever seen for a new one. They might have something similar going on now. Another option if you have an Android device is the Torque app with a cheap ELM327 bluetooth scanner. You can do a lot more with it, but the Scangauge is easier to leave in the car.
Assuming the ScanGauge: CleanMPG sells them, sort of a good cause. Hang on, they're not for sale here are they?
Some of us call that favorite: SOC I have both, always connected via a OBD-II splitter. There's no contest which is more convenient: Scangauge. Since I have the plug-in model and live in the north, being able to see SOC (battery level) is helpful. The range guestimate is all over the place with daily temperatures and engine use all over the place. Seeing coolant temperature is priceless. Knowing when heat is available and how much is quite nice. Some might say it leaves you with a warm feeling.
Make sure you get the newest version I purchased an older one and had to send in to be updated for a additional fee. But they are very handy indeed, I got mine at Amazon along with the rearview mirror mount.
I just checked and although code DOW48 is good for $50 off at Advanced Auto Parts, I see they've now reduced the price on the ScanGauge to $139.99 and marked it as ineligible for any further discounts. It was a great deal while it lasted, as the price with the code (when it was working) was $109.99.
