Greetings, it's been a while since I posted around these parts. I bought my Prius v three in March 2012. Some of you may remember at the time we were promised an update that would give us I heart radio and urban spoon and such... Yeah, never got that. Also, nowadays I hear there are actual map updates? So I have a few questions :
1.Entune updates and Map updates are one single thing or two separate things?
    2. Why do I still not have the infamous red USB stick, or how can I get one? Or how can I get the latest entune update?
3.is it true that going to the dealer for these updates will cost me over 200 dollars? Updates were promised with the purchase of the car!
4.are there new updates that only pertain to 2013 and 2014 versions of the Prius v? Or do they have the same nav system?

    Thanks for your time.

I also bought my Prius v with ATP about 3 months ago, and fought with the dealership's management afterwards for a FREE Navigational Update to the most current release, as one would expect that a 2013 would have 2013 maps and firmware. At the time, the 2013 Prius v had the 2012 maps and firmware. I since learned that an new Navi updates would be released by Toyota in 2014, and there would be a dealer cost (est at $150-$200) for the installation via USB stick only at the dealership, not an end user install.

Entune updates are installed to the radio via an Apple iPhone or iTouch with WiFi using the Entune App. This end user installation was difficult and troublesome. When Toyotacare was contacted for support, they informed me that I would have to keep trying the (over the air only) OTA update over and over again until it competed. After 15+ attempts over two weeks, the last update finished, and the functionality of Entune seemed about the same (Added Bluetooth and Pandora), hence my limited use of this capability since I listen to 1,000's of my MP3 songs via the USB port.

I do not think that I will update the Navi for $200 in 2014, as as much as I like it to be current, I'm not thinking that the map updates will show roads that I travel on. One would think for the price of the ATP package that unlimited free updates would be provided to their loyal buyers. I was shocked at this $200 for update, since I have a Garmin 660 with unlimited lifetime map updates.

If the $200 updates adds features beyond a map update to the navigation it might be worth it....

The current version of Entune is 2.2.0, and the dealer should install it at no charge.

There have been three updates to Entune since I've owned my 2012 Prius c. The first one was via a red USB stick which Toyota mailed to all owners. The second one was over the air. The third one (2.2.0) was dealer only - you had to take the car in to have it installed.

How do I get the first one? I contacted Toyota and all that and they always told me they would send USB stick to people's home and that I could not request one, that I simply had to wait for my turn. It never came. Can't I just download it or something? And someone above said that I need a crapple to the updates for the second time? :( Android won't work?
And the third entune update is through the dealership, that's they one that costs 200 bucks? What's in it?
Just wanna make sure I understand correctly..

I should correct you though. "Toyota mailed to all owners" except me, because apparently the 30000 I spent on the car weren't cool enough :(

The current update (2.2.0) includes all the other ones, so that's all you need. And the only way to get it is at the dealer.

There's no charge for Entune updates, but these do not include map updates for the nav system, for which there is a charge - perhaps that's the $200 you're referring to.

If your dealer won't install the Entune update for free, call Toyota Support and complain.

But what does the Entune 2.2.0 include? What's different in it than the previous version?

These were the fixes in T-SB-0051-13:

2012 model year vehicles equipped with a Display Audio Navigation System and Entune (version
less than 2.1.0) may exhibit one or more of the following conditions:
    • Vehicle orientation slow to update after vehicle startup
    • Five Bing™ search results are not all displayed on the map
    • Voice recognition destination request does not provide feedback
    • Voice recognition for POI search displays "Function not available" message
    • "Car Multimedia" device name cannot be changed
2012 – 2013 model year vehicles equipped with a Display Audio Navigation System (Non-HDD) and
Entune (version less than 2.2.0) may exhibit one or more of the following conditions:
    • “Address non-navigable” message when using the navigation system
    • Head unit audio does not switch correctly between day and night modes
    • Dynamic re-route navigation setting is not remembered after ignition cycle
    • Traffic Radius Filter setting is not remembered after ignition cycle
    • “You have arrived at your destination” message gives incorrect side of street
    • Head unit does not display incoming iPhone iOS 6 text message sender ID
    • Head unit does not fully display incoming iPhone iOS 6 text messages which include carriage
    returns (line breaks)
Updated system software is now available to address these conditions. Follow the repair procedure
in this bulletin to install the latest software version.

It's recommended to go to the dealer and complain about a specific issue, and tell them it's fixed in that T-SB. Here's a response from Toyota to a non-Prius owner in another forum (the Entune system is the same):

As previously mentioned, if you are looking to update your Entune™ system to the current 2.2.0 version, which may address any Entune™ connectivity concerns you may be experiencing, that update is at no cost to you.

The information you are referring to in the T-SB-0051-13 (T-SB-0030-12 is obselete) outlines various conditions customers may experience with their Display Audio Navigation System and Entune. The bulletin advises our Toyota dealers on how to address these conditions and outlines a repair procedure.

As stated in the bulletin, the repair is covered under the Toyota Comprehensive Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle’s in-service date. Most importantly, warranty application is limited to occurrence of the specified condition described in the bulletin.

In order to confirm that one or more of the conditions listed are present, you will need to schedule an appointment at your local Toyota dealership. The dealer will confirm your current software version, which if it is not the most current, 2.2.0, your software will be updated.Once installed, the dealer will check to confirm the condition was corrected.

The navigation system updates are performed annually and made available for purchase through your local Toyota dealer. For the navigation system updates, the mapping data reflects highly populated areas and only data that has been verified is included. Rural, unincorporated areas, and newly constructed roads may not be included in these annual updates.

I'm beyond 36000 miles. But I have the extended warranties and such. Will they do it for free?

Just an FYI but you can update the maps on your own if you really want to. It may not be cost effective as just going straight to a dealer though, as I have found from personal experience...

    1. NAV map data and ENTUNE updates are separate. NAV map data does seem to come with Gracenote updates and possible updates to the NAV software/firmware.
    2. ENTUNE update for Display Audio, that is everything except the NAV that comes with the Advanced Technology Package, are through USB. ENTUNE update for ATP/AVN NAV is through the airwaves. Display Audio is made by Harman, AVN is made by DENSO.
    3. Map updates will cost a lot. In another thread I showed my cost was definitely over $200 doing it myself ($90.94 for the USB dongle, $155 for the activation card, and $55 for the TIS subscription necessary to produce the installation code), OR $155 for the Activation Card plus dealer installation fee (whatever that may be). I'd call Toyota and ask for a replacement ENTUNE USB dongle to be sent since yours probably got lost in the mail, (this does happen, ie mail trucks do get into accidents sometimes, or a neighbor might have received it and said "cool free USB stick".)
    4. I honestly don't know and don't have a TIS subscription to try to check whether 2013/14 models have a different NAV system.

    correction here.
    1. Yes they are separate. Entune only refers to the Apps. All Apps are done over the air ie your Pandora/iHeart etc are over the air using the phone running entune. Depending on System AVN map updates will not update Multimedia core SW, DA (Display Audio) with Nav possible depending on dealer.
    2. DA with Nav by harman and AVN by Denso is also done with USB stick to update Multimedia core SW, no over the air updates.

That seems to work, it keeps warning you to keep the engine on, but I think Ready is all that is needed.

While I'm not sure about future updates to Entune, I'm pretty sure the one I got was over the phone, (thanks for correcting me). In fact that is one reason I switched from a Windows Mobile phone to an Android phone in the first place.

The first Entune update was sent out by Toyota on a nice red USB stick to all owners. The next one was only minor changes, and that was done over the phone. The current 3.1.0 update is only by USB stick at the dealer, or by using the leaked files in the post above.

Having perused the "leaked" thread a little, that amount of data would definitely be an issue for over the air/phone use, so it makes sense that it is on a USB stick. Knowing what I know about the updates from a long time ago, I wouldn't dare download anything without TIS instructions and the actual/original code for my device.

There were TIS instructions for the Harman/Display Audio unit and a USB dongle. For the AVN/DENSO unit it was over the air/phone, at that time. They were separate. The Harman Entune added a lot of apps, possibly 3 or 4, as I understand, already available on the DENSO unit, hence the large size probably necessitated a USB vs. the smaller size that was done over the air. (I had TIS access as I was probably attempting to install DRLs using the Canadian schematics and trying to update the Nav data...)

Yes, I remember the instructions would note the color. It was part of Toyota's way of helping "techs" distinguish the different USB dongles I'm guessing.
